  • Verizon Hotspot Pricing Revealed: $20 for 2 GB

Two weeks after they announced the iPhone, the details of Verizon's service offerings for the device are finally becoming clear. After the company's COO spilled the beans earlier today about the unlimited data plan for the device itself, Brenda Raney, the carrier's Executive Director of Corporate Communications told MacWorld that Verizon's Personal Hotspot feature will cost customers an additional $20 on top of the $30 they'll pay for their monthly data plans and come with a 2 GB cap.

The Verizon-specific tethering feature turns the iPhone into a 3G wireless hotspot for up to five devices. Data used by Personal Hotspot-tethered devices will be on a 2 GB monthly plan separate from the iPhone's unlimited plan. Customers will have to pay $20 for each gigabyte they consume beyond the cap. While the overage fee is twice what AT&T customers have to pay, Verizon customers do get to keep the unlimited plan on their phones separate, while AT&T users have to share the same 2 GB on the DataPro plan.

Though iOS 4.3 will reportedly make Personal Hotspot a feature for all iPhones, it's not yet known if AT&T or any other carrier will support it. AT&T tethering currently only supports USB or Bluetooth connections, not WiFi.

Yeah there's no way they would include hotspot in their unlimited data plan, they would crash, (which I'm still hoping they do)!

I personally never go over 2gigs. But I kept my unlimited just incase. As I hear it even the unlimited AT&T package is a cap of 5gigs.

Verizon so unstable in my area that I'll be sticking with AT&T

The unlimited data is not going to be offered forever. Verizon has already said it will only be an option for a limited time. 5 connections simultaneously on a CDMA network? Lol sure.

Because the Verizons "can you hear me now" commercials have brain washed you and forced you to go to Verizon! Lol jk

I just saw a guy had posted his past 6 month data usage on macrumors.com and he averaged 20gb, so definately no worry about AT&T and a phantom cap. I'll stick with AT&T unlimited data and mywi.

I just got an iSpot from Clear. $25/mo, 6MB Down, No Usage Cap. 8 Devices. Saved on the iPad (WiFi Only) and don't need to worry about tethering caps. Says it only works with iPhone & iPad but does just fine with my MBP too.

Who would want to tether more than 1 device on CDMA... oh and when you're on the road and your boss calls (disconnecting your hotspot) and says "I just sent this super important eMail......"

i think i have seen the same post that you are talking about and it made me wonder if he is just messing with us because i dont know what the hell he is doing stream that much info for, or that the cap is a myth

So....exactly the same as AT&T for everything. I'm seeing no reason to switch. AT&T and Verizon have the same networks where I live basically. The one thing I was hoping for was a price difference, but I'm already paying $30 for unlimited data on AT&T. Oh well.

The way i see it there is only one reason to switch...well ok 2 reasons.
One.... You get crappy coverage where you live with AT&T....And two..well your retarded

Hmmmm just about the same till you get to the data plans section. But I could see AT&T switchen this later on.
I for one really don't care since I still have unlimited data with my iPhone 4.

But would be nice to see then drop the price down atleast a couple bux.
