  • iPod "Fasting" Begins Today?

Could millions of iPods around the world catch a breather for, let's say, the next forty days or so?

Believe or not, there is a movement underway that could actually inspire many around the world to include their iPods on the list of items to sacrifice during Lent, a religious season of sacrifice known as Advent that begins with the observance of Ash Wednesday - which is today.

    According to the UK's Telegraph:
The bishops of Liverpool and London have called on us to give up our iPods for Lent
The whole notion behind the suggestion, however, seems to have every bit as much to do with global climate change as it does the annual abstaining ritual. The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, and the Bishop of Liverpool, James Jones, are specifically calling for a "carbon fast" for Lent. Nonetheless, the idea has gotten widespread media attention and could result in a lot of people adding iPods to their off-limits list for the next several weeks.

There is, of course, a humanitarian theme behind the movement. Those who agree to give up their iPods for Lent are encouraged to calculate their "energy savings" and send the difference to a worthwhile cause or charity that serves the less fortunate.

Anyone planning to actually forgo their iPod for Lent?

Advent and Lent are two COMPLETELY different things. Advent celebrates the coming of Christ on and before Christmas, while Lent is the time of celebration for the rising of Christ on Easter Sunday. Check your facts.

I could think of better things for the catholics to give up, but hey these priests are trying to do something good so more power to them.

trying? dude oh dude. Catholicism is the largest and longest standing organization that has a major focus on feeding homeless, building homes, etc.

who housed and fed and bathed the sick during the black plague? the government sure as hell didn't, all they did was pick up the bodies.

if your just using it for climate change, bunch of crap 'church'

I personaly think climate change is BS, because they tell us the earth is getting hotter then we have a cold winter, then they say we'll have colder winters in future, but that the world is still getting hotter/warmer?????????

Climate change, hmm hasn't our planet always had it, they say in the last Ice age, when the world warmed up, then we had an ice age again, oh look it's normal for our planet maybe who knows were any of us there!!!! it's BS

So NO!!!!!, pope give up your stuff first
Whoa, this came out of nowhere.

Also, the government cannot do anything in regards to lent... separation of church and state; unless you aren't referring to the US government and are referring to the Vatican and their state.

Back on topic: It's been day one... no fast food, no coffee, no cigarettes, no alcohol... I've made it.

Now here comes day two >_<!

If I had an ipod I could give it up. My iPhone, however, because it's my cell phone, no. Although I'm not Catholic and have never been as such, I think some sort of Lent sacrifice would be interesting. Too bad it's already Thursday....
