  • In-App Purchases in Free Apps are a go

You can also simplify your development by creating a single version of your app that uses In App Purchase to unlock additional functionality, eliminating the need to create Lite versions of your app. Using In App Purchase in your app can also help combat some of the problems of software piracy by allowing you to verify In App Purchases.

Visit the App Store Resource Center for more details about how you can add In App Purchases to your free apps.
Now before you go back to complain about Apple fixing exploits and what you're entitled to do with your phone, take a minute to let the news sink in. What does this mean for the future?

No more Lite version - Mentioned in the announcement itself, developers can now (if they choose to) package their whole app under a free title, letting you try it, then if you want to really get it, just unlock the full game/app through an in-app purchase.

The end of piracy? - Probably not, but it'll be harder now. Since in-app purchases are verified through Apple to check that your account has in fact purchased the feature before being unlocked, you won't be able to just find a cracked .ipa and call it a day.

NO MORE "FREE 40 PRESTIGE POINTS IN HAPPY MMO FUN KITTY TIME" littering the free section of the store - Developers for these MMO games can now "sell" these through the app itself.

On 2g phone it's not a bad thing. You run about twice as fast. (and indirectly the same can be same for the 3g)

But how really popular is in-app purchase as a concept? Not long ago I was reading an interview by one of the ''rich'' developer saying that so far they have tried it but the feedback hasn't been as good as they were expecting. Is it just a matter of time?

Are you referring to the new iBoot version? As far as I knew it's still locked out.... and probably will be for a while...

umm what?! why would they do this now?! ive bought a buncha apps that developers said they would offer free if they could if apple allowed in-app purchases, like TTR3, so basically apple just took extra money thruough this move...SMH, this is why the jailbreak/cracked app scene started in the first place, apple and thier double standards! theyre 2-faced ness, god! i could rage and rant about this so much!

oooooo nice porn and cracked .ipa files my fave.

I think this concept of in app purchase for free games isn't to bad. You are not forced to buy anything, and since you don't have to pay its still sort of a lite version. Plus, lets say a game cost 5 dollars. Well now with this maybe they can offer the game with the first 2 lvls free...the next 2 at 1 dollar...and if you get bored of if by then, you just saved 4 dollars. Iono maybe that scenario won't happen, but its just a thought.

This is not gonna end piracy and ipas... Now In the next version of ************** they will figure out how to make the app ovverride the verification (orr work around) and then edit a few lines of code to make the purchAse free... And walah! Apple just made piracy worse because now people can end up with the REAL app for free...

But this site is all about modding your iPhone/moto which in its self is illegal! but we are not allowed to post links to cracked apps? smells like double standards to me.

NO, it is not. This is an extremely common and tiring misconception... Please go look it up before you try to pull the double standards card like so many have before you.

Okay, there is a difference. Hacking the iphone is making it able to do things apple won't let you do, like make an all black and white theme, or give your 2g/3g video recording, all provided free.

      Pirated apps is stolen software.

see the difference. Plus modymyi develops its own software for the iphone that they sell...i'm sure they have a soft spot for all the other apps developers... I know I have one. So in the end...their site...we follow rules

Fine, it may not be illegal(CBA searching, i will take your word for it) But are cracked apps and warez not the same sort of thing? Its seems a bit rich saying come here to JB your phone, but on the other hand your not allowed to post links to things that can be found on cydia? As it goes I'm not that fussed, but its something that has always bugged me about this site( don't get me wrong MMI is one of only 3 or 4 pages that are constantly open in my browser) but it does seem like d/s as i said before, just my point of view

You can find some of the filthiest material on the web using Safari, Chrome or Firefox. Just because you used those browsers to find it, that alone doesn't give you the right to post it.

You make absolutely no sense! Jailbreaking = legal. Stealing = illegal.

The vast majority of people jailbreak their device to customize it, theme it out and use awesome apps that would otherwise be rejected by the Apple. This is all legal stuff. You seem to have this tunnel vision that jailbreaking is worthless without cracked apps. Take a deep breath and think critically about these concepts. Millions of people jailbroke their phone even before the App Store existed!

I jailbreak for cracked apps, lol no joke. Yet I don't use cracked apps for more than a few minutes or very rarely download apps from App Store.
If Apple do make jailbreaking illegal, I wonder what will happen to MMi, hmmm.

see i think there isnt really much of a difference here. whats the difference from installing a cracked app, or downloading a song of limewire, or rapidshare or w.e

its really no different at all, i mean either way, someone isnt making as much money as they should.

The difference, is that some people,Like myself, Support the things they enjoy and believe to be a truely great product. For example, if i download a movie or album, and i truely love it, ill go out and buy it, even if i already had it (hacked/pirated). The same is true for iphone apps, for example i had a trip recently and i cracked Flightupdate, and a number of other similar programs (about 4others) i tried them on my trip and i felt like flightupdate was a great program, so i bought it. needless to say , i deleted and did not purchase the other programs. If i had i would have asked for a refund.

so the point is, there is a such thing as a moral thief.

And some of you have already mentioned it, if apple does infact succeed in proving that jailbreaking is illegal, then MMi will only be facilitating this, but do you think its gonna shut down willinilli just because apple says this ? not a chance.

censorship is retarded. you just have to trust that some people will make the right choices , and if theyre not, them maybe you should make a better program for crying out loud instead of wining that people are stealing it.
