  • iBike: Phone, Music, GPS and Radar Detector on Two Wheels

    image via Gizmodo

    Leave it to the French.

Car kits for the iPhone are so commonplace now they're almost boring. Even the TomTom kit, after all, is just a pricey app and cradle. But iPhone solutions for two wheels have been few and far between, and decidedly unsexy.

The iBike kit gives iPhone-using motorcycle integration in style, with an aggressively designed weatherproof wrist mount case carrying a list price of the equivalent of about $42. For complete two-wheel integration, you can add a helmet headset for about $85 so that you can make calls and access your tunes without dismounting.

Additionally, the "So Easy Rider" option also allows voice control of GPS, and reads directions back into the flat helmet-mounting headset. Add Trapster support and you have a complete solution for your hog or rice-burner.

If only I could use this thing on my ten-speed without looking like a total tool...

That's cool. The Price is a little high. But more reasonable than the TOMTOM car kit.

The radar detector is the trapster service, its not a REAL radar detector but it provides decent service in big cities. check out their website trapster.com

cool, I could see myself using this while riding my ATV. Normally I can't hear my phone as it's in a bag...IF I even take it with me.

Depends on where you are... winter is actually a GOOD thing here in Miami.. is the best time to ride on two wheels... no rain and no 120 degrees LOL

Oh dear lord, that looks dangerous!
Last thing I want to see on the road is someone on a motorcycle fumbling around with a touch sensitive keyboard while wearing gloves trying to play "born to be wild" as he cruises down the highway at 70 mph. :-\

That's definitely cool. I am going to order this for next Spring. :-)I used to stick ipod in my pocket, run my headphones up the sleeve. And for GPS? I taped down a piece of paper with instructions on my gas tank. LOL.

True. Where I am from, Minnesota, it is illegal to have them in both ears as well. Only one ear can be used for music devices while operating a motor vehicle.

Actually it's great timing with summer almost here. Can't wait for December / January and the summer holidays here in New Zealand.

But can you charge while using it? Or is your ride going to be short lived because your phone is killing the battery using trapster on the network and GPS.

here in Florida it's illegal to have earbuds "in" your ears, if you have a headset in the helmet even if it's stereo it's ok, it's probably very similar in other places, you guys should check and make sure if that's what they mean and then get yourselves a good bluetooth stereo headset! (they rock! I use chatterbox xBi units, they work with iPhones!) at high speeds with loud pipes, I can still hear the Music! (google them up for info, you will love them!)

as far as the armband goes, I use my iPhone without the need, just setup a playlist and use bluetooth to connect to helmet, and then if phone rings I answer by hitting a button, I have no need to call out but it would do that too. I know that with my style of riding the less distractions the better so I try and keep it simple and choose a playlist for my mood when I start, then let it go. - Bluetooth, gotta love it!
