  • iPhone Dev Team Already at Work on Verizon iPhone Jailbreak

As many of us continue to wait for a stable release of an untethered jailbreak for current generation iPhones, iPods, and iPads on firmware 4.2.1, the iPhone Dev Team has announced that they are already at work on a jailbreak for the Verizon iPhone.

The team has been working on a jailbreak for firmware 4.2.5 (first seen on the Verizon iPhone 4) and 4.3 beta, which was just released to developers by Apple on Wedenesday. However, Dev Team member MuscleNerd has posted on his twitter that nothing will be released until after the current firmwares are out of beta, simply because "Most people can't take advantage of betas." We also suspect that it has something to do with the fact that they want to be extremely careful about the exploits they find, so that Apple will not patch them up before the update is released.

I'm sure the moment Verizon customers get their hands on the iPhone, there will be plenty of people chomping at the bit to get their brand new phone's jailbroken, so it is great news that initial progress is already being made, even before anyone's gotten their hands on one.

As reported earlier, MuscleNerd seems like a pretty busy guy these days, as he recently tweeted his progress on an unlock for the iphone 4. So, the JB and unlock community will continue to play the waiting game, while the Dev Team works their magic once again. We'll keep you posted as things continue to pan out.

I could understand if his whole article would have been jacked up, but it was one word. You act as if nobody even at a professional level is allowed to make mistakes.

I guess it's better some of these people spend more time worrying about mmi grammar rather then with their imaginary girlfriends and downing the dev for making sure they cover all points of an extremely tedious job. My input being I guess, if you aren't producing software for the jb community, and if you don't have your own website, you're no pro, therefore you have no place as a critic... So save the space for people who actually matter.

Very very bad taste Jahooba. Have some respect for DEAD PEOPLE.

On a slightly related topic, are they going to engrave the ESN into the back of the phone since you have to have it off in order to activate it unless they plan on having you boot the phone up, write down the ESN, then turn it off again. Also don't you normally have to take the battery out of the phone for 20-30 seconds when you activate the ESN online or call Verizon to do it?

Are people going to b1tch when they can't unlock their Verizon iPhone to work on Sprint(a crappier network) a la unlocking on AT&T to use on T-Mobile(a crappier network)?

Before you all flame me for that, yes I already know the CDMA systems are the same but phones don't transfer over between Sprint and Verizon even if they are "unlocked." Just making an observation.

What I don't get is why is everyone making an assumption that @Msclenerd is working on The Verizon IPhone? He doesn't even mention working on 4.2.5 . All he is saying is he's waiting to release his unlock and stable jailbreak. Nothing more. I think everyone is reading too much into his quote

To my knowledge, no one has been able to get to try out 4.2.5. Once 4.2.5 comes out, I'm sure whoever releases the next JB will make sure 4.3 and 4.2.5 are good to go, then release a tool to JB it...

I don't know too much about it, so my question and press for hope may be in blind ignorance but, couldn't a hack work? Something via Cydia package maybe that would help with the whole sprint unlock thing. Either way, I could see huge changes in sprints plans if it does happen, 69.99 unlimited everything on an idevice? I don't see that for one second.

"they are already at work on a jailbreak for the Verizon iPhone"

It seems lately that a "jail break is just around the corner" then Apple announces another update and the "just around the corner" gets pushed out again to the next update. Now we are waiting for the verizon iphone to get the jail break ?

If you buy a new iPhone 4, then you'll probably have to wait at least one more month until the Verizon iPhone comes out. I say stick to your 3GS and use it b/c you won't be unlocking the iPhone 4 anytime soon unless you can find a cheap one on iOS 4.0.2 and lower or Baseband 01.59.00.
