  • iPhone Dev Team Already at Work on Verizon iPhone Jailbreak

As many of us continue to wait for a stable release of an untethered jailbreak for current generation iPhones, iPods, and iPads on firmware 4.2.1, the iPhone Dev Team has announced that they are already at work on a jailbreak for the Verizon iPhone.

The team has been working on a jailbreak for firmware 4.2.5 (first seen on the Verizon iPhone 4) and 4.3 beta, which was just released to developers by Apple on Wedenesday. However, Dev Team member MuscleNerd has posted on his twitter that nothing will be released until after the current firmwares are out of beta, simply because "Most people can't take advantage of betas." We also suspect that it has something to do with the fact that they want to be extremely careful about the exploits they find, so that Apple will not patch them up before the update is released.

I'm sure the moment Verizon customers get their hands on the iPhone, there will be plenty of people chomping at the bit to get their brand new phone's jailbroken, so it is great news that initial progress is already being made, even before anyone's gotten their hands on one.

As reported earlier, MuscleNerd seems like a pretty busy guy these days, as he recently tweeted his progress on an unlock for the iphone 4. So, the JB and unlock community will continue to play the waiting game, while the Dev Team works their magic once again. We'll keep you posted as things continue to pan out.

Kind of expected it. Hopefully they can release an untethered Jailbreak for OS 4.3 too at the same time as the unlocks. Then we'll all be happy.

definitely dev team and others are trying hard. but as others mentioned that apple is gaining ground over devs its getting really tough to make jailbreaks and unlocks. so devs are just trying to cover as many firmwares possible under 1 jailbreak and unlock. as ppl get angry and fired up on devs when they say they cant do it now and stuffs so the devs are just using the next update as a mentioning protective shield. so devs will cover 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3 unlock with 1 unlock release. so lets wait for 1 more month and we will get our stuffs. and guys its pretty logical. cheers

back in the iOS 1.x and 2.x days it felt like we had jailbreaks and new baseband unlocks on day one of a new iOS update. Even with 3.x they felt pretty quick, but since 4.0 it feels like the Dev Team seems to be always waiting until the next update.
I'm not complaining, I understand they want to save as many exploits as possible, and I'm happy to stay on 4.1, but it's almost as if Apple is announcing new iOS updates much more frequently now just to keep the Dev Team from releasing new jailbreaks.
What happened the exploit that would jailbreak all current iOS Devices? Was it not supposed to jailbreak all current hardware regardless of new software updates?
All current devices are indeed jailbroken except most new ones are tethered. I recently upgraded to 4.2.1 on IP4 and jailbroke without a problem. As long as you have regular access to a computer and basic computer skills the tethered bit isn't complicated. Yes it does crash sometimes but the good outweighs the bad for me.

Firmware is like aircraft (or software or hardware) -- it doesn't have a plural.

Normally I can't stand someone judging others on this forum for grammar. However, when it's done to one who is correcting someone else.... It's like they cancel each other out. ;-P

Regardless, let's please stay on subject.

At least the last thread about Comex waiting till 4.3 is out to release a JB (or which ever is first), will now be a reality instead of a possibility.

Heinz marketing couldn't have said it any better. "Good things come to those who wait".... And sometimes it's the truth.

So we're all waiting for an unlock, but what happened to that unlock alternative, the SAM unlock package in Cydia? Is there some reason it won't work on future iPhone firmware updates or something? Seems like a bit of an end-all solution.

The jailbreak isn't the only thing that will be appreciated.
If people jump ship and go over to Verizon, that will free up the ATT network. And we can all do with less congestion.

What ever happened to the untethered jailbreak beta for 4.2.1? Seems it was in stage 5 beta a few days following Christmas. Now it appears to have dropped off the face of the earth...

Since when? It is on beta 7 now, I believe. They have just begun trying to bring in support for 4.1 shsh blobs, which will eliminate any legality issues surrounding it from using beta IPSWs and then they will port it over to windows.

Also unless you either have a brand new device that you just purchased on the newest firmware or you get a warranty replacement, you should always have a jailbroken device. My iPad was jailbroken since jailbreakme.com was around on 3.2.1, it was my decision to upgrade to 4.2.1 tethered JB cuz i wanted 4.0. I am still on 4.1 on my iPhone 3GS, i dont see any reason to get rid of a perfectly good jailbreak for a tethered JB just for a few minor upgrades. So if you are one of the unlucky ones that has gotten a new firmware device or a warranty replacement from Apple, just remember be patient, the Devs do this for FREE and put a lot of time into this, and i know if they stop i will probably jump ship to another platform ( i cant believe i just said that OMFG) but hopefully I wont have to as long as we respect these Devs and be patient they will continue to do what they do. Ciao.

Oh and stop giving the MMi writers crap over mis-spelling of words. Grow up. If you could do any better why dont you write for MMi? Thats what i thought.....

When someone takes on a writing oriented job at a professional level, the quality of their spelling and grammar should be of a professional level.

I don't go to little league games and yell at the kids for their mistakes, but I will certainly voice my opinions to those in the professional arena.
