  • AT&T is on Pins and Needles over MMS Launch

    Image via LarryFire

Multiple reports have been published in the last few hours suggesting that AT&T is anything but calm, cool, and collected going into Friday's introduction of MMS for the iPhone.

According to Apple Insider, preliminary tests have indicated a great strain on the company's MMS servers. This "strain" is believed to have been responsible for a "test outage" yesterday. So anxious are the people at AT&T that the company will use every minute between today and tomorrow to shore up capacity to a greater extent than current measures have already provided.

A note published by DSLReports cited a source familiar with the company's MMS upgrade as saying, "Starting at 10AM Eastern (on the 25), AT&T will send out a mass text to a group of iPhone users telling them that MMS now works on their phone. Assuming all goes well, "They will keep doing groups of phones on the hour throughout the day," the source said. Official word from company spokesman Seth Bloom said the upgrade would be targeted at early afternoon on the East Coast, or late morning for users on Pacific Time.
Sources close to the project are estimating that traffic on AT&T's wireless network could prove in excess of 40% higher tomorrow as iPhone users jump head first into the service they feel is both long overdue and their birth right as iPhone owners.

But, at least for now, everything is on track and on schedule for the MMS launch tomorrow morning. AT&T even updated its Facebook page to alleviate concerns that further delays lie ahead. "MMS Update: We know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25," said the message. "Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time."

We first learned that September 25th would be the "go date" this past July, when AT&T said that MMS features would finally come to the iPhone. Now the moment of truth is upon us.

    Tomorrow should be interesting.

so im wondering...Im on a 3Gs and I did that capture with GeoHots site,I also have an ECID on file with Sauriks server AND I captured both files in preperation for 3.0.

Might seem like overkill but doing ALL that,I wonder if I should just update to 3.1 and get it over with

Yeah the video quality is a complete joke. It might show up decently on a smaller blackberry screen, but definitely not on a bigger screen like the iphone.

If I have my ecid shsh on file with Cydia can I update, get the ipcc, roll back to 3.0.1, install it and re-jailbreak?

I think I got it, I have a JB 3Gs phone and I'm screwed regarding MMS huh? I see all this talk of a ipcc file, I have no clue what that is. I just want to be able to use MMS, but my iTunes doesn't show that as an option, just the upgrade to 3.1 which I understand will make my phone un-jailbreakable...so there's nothing I can do to capitalize on the AT&T upgrade?

the ipcc file is a carrier update file from ATT which enables MMS. Since us 3Gs users NOT on 3.1 havent updated while waiting for a jailbreak can not see it,yet we are kinda hosed on the MMS.

So its a trade off at the moment, unless someone uploads the file for us I think.

Then again,I tried the command line hack for iTunes and it didnt seem to work at all,as it didnt see ipcc files

      Same here. 2:08 EST. Working.

      Here's my settings:

      APN:
      Username:
      Password:
      MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
      MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32:80
      MMS Max Message Size: 614400
      MMS UA Prof URL:

Tethering working without PDANet!!! Tethering comes up as a blue bar at the top (similar to the green bar when on a call and you hit the home button).

Im on 3G, 3.0.1 in Florida

So if someone uploads this file...then what? How will that help us with the Jailbroken 3Gs phones get MMS?

I have access to a 3G phone, I can do the MMS upgrade and grab the ipcc file if someone can tell me how, I'm not as technically savvy as many of you but I can follow directions.

Just curious as I haven't seen anything pop up on my iphone yet in messaging...is there some sort of patch we have to download for MMS to start working or will it simply show up in the messaging? I just upgraded to the 3.1 firmware a couple of days ago (stupid me!) and have already had issues of coma mode too. =( Thanks for the help!

Someone posted a way to update carrier files not to long ago doing a command line process. I may have just messed it up in entering the string, but it was supposed to allow you to upgrade a hacked or beta(not sure which) ipcc file to your phone and enable MMS early.

As for pulling the file out, that I dont know about..But im seriously weighing my options..Do I like the ability to customize along with YourTube and 3GUnrestrictor OR do I want MMS
