  • How Much Will Verizon iPhone Data Cost?

After so many months of speculation and leaks, one of the few surprises to come out of yesterday's Verizon announcement was the fact that the carrier did not announce any pricing structure for data plans on its network. Following rumors that the nation's largest carrier would be offering the same unlimited data plan it offers its other smartphone customers, this omission was a big disappointment. So how much will it cost to have an iPhone on Verizon? Observers are divided, with some suggesting that "all you can eat" may be more than you can afford.

As of right now, Verizon offers 150 MB of data to its smartphone customers at $15/month, or unlimited for $29.99. You can get a text message plan that covers 5,000 texts or unlimited mobile to mobile for $20 a month, and an unlimited voice plan for $69.99. The cheapest text plan is 20 cents per text, and the cheapest voice plan is $39.99 for 450 minutes a month. The Verizon FAQ is surprisingly silent about what the cost of iPhone data plans will be, saying only that customers are "required to activate a data package, pricing will be announced at a later date." This isn't a good sign as far as the unlimited data plan goes; if they were planning on offering such a deal, you'd expect them to advertise it pretty heavily. Some observers think that existing customers of Verizon who change to the iPhone will be able to keep their current plans at the current prices, so that might explain the rumors about unlimited data if true. But what about new customers?

According to Rob Enderle, an analyst interviewed by Computerworld, there will be tiered plans, ranging from $20 to $90 per month, with the unlimited plan coming in at a staggering $120 per month. While these numbers seem high, it's important to remember that Verizon has tiered data plans for the Samsung Galaxy Tab last year, with the top plan costing $80 a month for 10GB, with $10 for each added 1GB. Combined with Verizon's unlimited voice and texting plans, this means it's possible that a monthly bill for iPhone service would be as high as $300. Other analysts believe Verizon will keep its current pricing structure for the iPhone, with Dan Hays, a consultant at PRTM, arguing that "Verizon would be hard-pressed to justify a pricing difference between one smartphone in its portfolio and another." The question remains, though, whether Verizon might take this opportunity to raise prices for all smartphones, including the iPhone.

Whatever the ultimate price, it seems like it would be a bad move for Verizon to make it very different from what AT&T offers for the iPhone currently. Verizon is counting on millions of people to make the switch, and asking them to pay more per month - in addition to early termination fees of up to $325 - for data that they can't use while talking on the phone may be too much for all but the most fervent AT&T haters.

How about we post relevant stuff?
Verizon just needs new plans in general. Seriously, no unlimited texting? Who is this made for, grandparents over the age of 90?

I am at 15654 with 3 days left. That would cost me a fortune. I have been using heytell as well too, because of it being able to go multi os (android ios etc). I have been looking for a new service, because T-Mobile (my current service) doesn't have 3g where I live, just slow *** edge, but I guess verizon doesn't fit the bill.

If you ask me all these carriers are getting over. If you have unlimited data, SMS & MMS should be included. $20 for unlimited txt & $30 for unlimited data... How about Obama do something about that! Lol

AT&T > Verizon. I see many problems with Verizon's plans. I pay 50 for unlimited text and data. Simple as that.
Looks like Ill be the one laughing at the beginners that buy the more "expensive plan." Just for a bit of coverage.

ive been a verizon customer for quite some time now and they do indeed have unlimited texting on their website you have to scroll down to the talk & text plans. you could easily have a plan that costs less than a $100 including unlimited data, now you may not have unlimited talk time but if you have an iphone do you really talk all that much on it?

Would you mind taking a screen shot of where this unlimited texting is? Because I am not seeing it.

heres the unlimited text messaging i was talking about. to find it go to verizonwireless.com --> Plans --> Individual --> Scroll down to Talk and Text Plans. I know its there. the data package is 29.99. if you want to see how much your plan could cost just go through the steps of ordering a phone choose a droid only because they require data package choose your desired features then skip accessories and at the end of the process before check out it will show you how much your monthly bill will be before the 5 or 6 dollars of taxes.

alright family plan is a lil bit more complicated because its $90 for the lowest amount of minutes. the $90 is 700 min unlimited text. unlimited data is $29.99 . Each additional line (up to 3 phones) is $9.99 for shared use of minutes and unlimited texting. You will have to pay the $29.99 per phone if you have other phones that you want unlimited data on. now if you have a family member who doesnt use a lot of data lets say less than 150MB per month but more than 25MB a month they offer a $15 data package that gives you 150MB a month. The same steps can be followed for the family plans. choose Family Plans instead of Individual Plans. When you look online itll show the Family Plan as being $99.99 that is because you get 2 lines of service. $90 for "you" and $9.99 for the extra person. hence the Family Plan name. either way its the same pricing. If you need any help at all just PM me. I will help anyone who needs it.

hopefully they wont change their plans. I use well over 4 or 5 GB a month and I am currently deployed. I do fall under a different type of plan but still I have unlimited data no matter what country i go into. I use my data all day everyday here. I could always call verizon and ask. They leaked me the iPhone was coming to verizon and it was December when they told me that. So who knows I might be able to get them to slip up.

Verizon has been planning tiered data for months now, it would not surprise me at all to see them implement it for the iPhone.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me to see it implemented for any iPhone, regardless of prior contract/data plan. Sure it would cause an uproar, but people would still do it and they know it.

I'm sticking with AT&T. I left Verizon last July to get my iPhone and I hope to upgrade when the next model comes out (I have a 3GS). I haven't had any issues aside from loss of 3g for about a week at my house (where I have wifi), and I got a credit for that.

On the other end of the spectrum, though, if Verizon does offer their current $29.99 unlimited data for the iPhone then I really hope that AT&T offers, even if it's temporarily, an unlimited data plan for those of us that missed out before. It would be the smart thing for them to do (smarter if they didn't raise the price over the current $25/2GB plan).

That plan only is unlimited IF and only IF your calling and texting to members in your friends and family circle. Not to anyone like the the current AT&T unlimited texting plans.

Sounds right... I went to a Verizon store on 1/11/11 around noon, asked them about how much an iPhone plan was going to cost, they said it was going to be the same as the rest of there smart phones, the guy I spoke to said I could pre-order next month and pick up on the 11th, I don't know if he confused the dates or if the Verizon stores are getting them a day late... That's just my experience when I asked them so don't quote me on it... Was told it would be about $92 for their plan with the lowest minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data
