  • 3GS iPhones can no longer restore to 3.0

As of this morning iPhone 3GS owners can no longer restore to firmwares 3.0 or 3.0.1. This is due to the fact that Apple has stopped signing these files and if you try and restore using one you'll get an error. So this means you should be very very careful until 3.1 is jailbroken because if you mess up your phone... you can only go up to 3.1 as of now. Additionally if you do not have your IBSS and IBEC signatures and you restore, you may never be able to jailbreak again.

iPhone 3G and first generation owners should still be able to restore with no problems.

From what i'm told, it's not possible. But a jailbreak is, so we're waiting for that.

I am pissed off, Apple really needs to stop imposing their will on people. It's not like I got my iPhone for free. Now just hoping for the jailbreak for 3.1.

      PS- I have Iphone 3GS
or you could of just downloaded the 3.0 or 3.0.1 of a website that has it and restored using that file instead but hey... what do i know lol.

The iphone would have to go into recovery mode. After I got the ECID, can I get out of the recovery mode without going through any restore process?
iPhone is 3GS on 3.0 and already JB.

I have a virgin 3gs with 3.0 firmware - it is still safe to jailbreak without it upgrading to 3.1?

      ^I'd like to second that.
Plus, all the other methods *require* a restore so is it possible to get the IBEC & IBSS files anymore?- seems like you can get the files but then your phone will be stuck since you can't restore to anything except 3.1fw (which I don't want to do since I'm unlocked/jb on TMobile).

Also, I clicked the thing on Cydia and it says they have my phone's ECID SHSH on file- is that enough?

I know these questions have been answered in some form already, but I'm looking for something more definitive. How many files do I need of the 3 that are mentioned? Am I safe with just Cydia having my ECID? Is it possible to still get the IBEC/IBSS files from my phone?

3gs on 3.0.1fw running with TMobile

      Thanks in advance!

If you just need the ECID yes. You dont even have to click that pop up from itunes asking about checking with apple. I just got mine and turned off my phone and canceled that window.

This could be a stupid question, but I have not seen anyone ask/answer this question. I got the files everyone is talking about a while ago, like 2 months ago. Since then, I have upgraded to 3.0.1 and jailbroke using redsnow. Are ibss and ibec files the same, or since i upgraded to 3.0.1 from 3.0 do I need to get new ibss and ibec files? Of course, i have a 3GS. I think the files are the same, just wanted to verify first.

Either way, with this news, I will be very selective what I add/do to my phone until 3.1 is jailbroken.

      Check out saurik's tweet:

The 3G[S] ECID SHSH's are on my server and I will be providing simple instructions for how to use them with iTunes to downgrade to 3.0 soon.

Where are you guys seeing this in cydia? I am running version 1.0.3030-62 and I see no option to even check to see if cydia has my files. Could someone please explain how to check this?

I saw it I think Tuesday. There was an essential upgrade to cydia. People on here talk about clicking something called "make my life easier" to save it. I didnt see it. If I did I must have clicked it in error because there is a note at the top saying that he has mine.

I dont see a message at the top and I never had the option everyone is talking about. My cydia is fully updated.

I currently have an iPhone 3Gs and I wasn't aware I had to save ECID SHSH, IBEC and IBSS. Unfortunately,I seldom go through this site unless I am having trouble with my iPhone. My iPhone currently has FW 3.0 and it's jailbroken and unlock. In addition, how can one verify if Cydia was able to save ECID file (or whatever you call it)? Second, since the release of 3.1, does this mean I will not be able to obtain IBEC and IBSS?

Your assistance to this manner is greatly appreciated.

If all new 3GSs that come with 3.1 can never be jailbroken, then jailbreaking will die very soon. If jailbreaking will only be good for the iPhones that are out now, as people upgrade to new phones and less and less people own the older models, people will stop making apps for the jailbreak community since it's not worth their time and eventually when there are only a few people on old iPhones that will jailbreak, it won't be worth the dev team's time to do it for so few.

Hopefully this is all wrong, and the dev team does still figure out a way to jailbreak the 3GS. But it's only getting harder. They already are going to have to figure out a new way to jailbreak the 3GS. Imagine how much harder it's going to get with the 4th gen iPhone. If you think that's hard, what about the 5th?

      ECID

Regarding the IBEC and IBSS I don't think there is a way to get them now if you havent already got them as you can't restore to 3.0 to capture them.

I had a MASSIVE panic attack about 30 minutes ago. I knew I had both files somewhere but for the life of me I couldn't find them. Checked my Windows Home Server, booted into Windows7 to see if they were there(had to purplera1n there because OSX wouldn't work), played some Fallout 3 to relieve some stress over maybe losing them, and then was mucking around in my OSX drive in Windows7 looking for it and found them! YESSSSS!!!

I seriously hope this isn't the end of jailbreak.
