  • Ouch! iPhone 3G S Already Torn Apart

    These crazy guys in France got their iPhone 3G S right away in order to . . . . disassemble it. I'm not planning on doing this when I get mine. They did, however, confirm some hardware specs while they were at it.
    • CPU is a Samsung S5PC100 ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics
    • 256 MB RAM

      I am really curious to find out if the 3GS parts are compatible with the 3G. I might buy a few stock items for the 3GS(ie. camera, digitizer, screen) and install them myself on my 3G rather than upgrade for the $$$...
      **hint hint*** if anyone who has a 3GS and a 3G wants to do some experimenting!!!!!!!

      I was kinda wondering that too... is there a notable size difference between the housing and overall size of the 3gs and the 3g?

      and as to the question about ram, it seems highly unlikely but i'm no expert..

      These guys are pro. You didn't think they'd just disassemble the phone then throw the parts away did you? They took it apart, they can put it back together perfectly. For this is not humpty dumpty.

      as for all of you who want to know if you can switch the parts, id say no just becuase you would have to customize your firmware and pull bits of it from the new firmware and replace it with those in the 3g firmware and hope that would work, they could also have locks on the mainboard to work only with certain parts(just like the bios hp puts on laptops> ) and as far as the housing goes, i thought it was exactly the same, there arent any size differences
