  • Apple Releases iTunes 8.2, Jailbreakers beware
Apple released iTunes 8.2 early this afternoon, an update to its music jukebox software and online store interface for the Mac and Windows. It's available for download through the Software Update system preference.

Apple notes that iTunes 8.2 now supports iPhones and iPod touches equipped with the iPhone 3.0 software update. Other accessibility improvements and bug fixes have also been made.

Jailbreakers beware: Apple also improved security in iTunes 8.2. According to a notice, Apple has improved bounds checking in 8.2 to prevent a stack buffer overflow problem that could lead to unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution.

    from MuscleNerd:
Today's iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things like QuickPwn and PwnageTool when they try to identify what's connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2(These are probably *not* anti-jailbreak maneuvers, just Apple changing protocols that normally only Apple cares about.) To fully uninstall iTunes 8.2 on Mac, close all iTunes and do this from Terminal.app. Do NOT mistype it .. https://twerbose.com/t8791
    from Chronic dev:

iTunes 8.2 Update == Bad. It will check the hash of newer firmware images, call the mothership when restoring to beta firmwares, have updated MobileDevice so programs like QuickPwn and anything else that uses MD will get messed up, make sure your device has the correct security epoch, chipid, security domain, production mode, board id, bb chip id, etc. They can all be patched, but for now, hold back from updating.
If you got too excited and installed the new iTunes grab this file to uninstall iTunes 8.2 on a Mac

If you install iTunes 8.2, QuickPwn and PwnageTool will not be able to talk to your phone correctly. You can always jailbreak with iTunes 8.1 or iTunes 8.2 prerelease for beta 4.

Usually the Dev team is pretty fast on these kind of fixes, no?
The dev team have stated they will not work on anything for the Betas.
Be patient and wait for official Dev Team quickpwn after 3.0 is released.

im curious if this script muscle nerd wrote was intended for pc or a mac?.

also there is a much safer way to uninstall 8.2 without using the terminal script.

also there is a much safer way to uninstall 8.2 without using the terminal script.

so far now that ive used the script and it completeley deleted all ability to redownload any older versions or newer. i finally was able to restore it through time machine. however it doesnt recognize my iphone3g is connected. i did have to delete all itunes library folders for it to recognize as every time i tried to open it would say it couldnt read the libraries as they were formed by a newer version of itunes. so now ive got my music and my videos but i cant seem to sync. and my mobile apps have dissapeared. i think i can restore those though. havnt tried yet.

follow this here and use time machine backup of older version itunes to restore and you should be fine.
heres how to properly uninstall 8.2:

Removing iTunes for Mac OS X

i copy/pasted MN script into terminal so dont say i didnt do it right.

im just forwarning you it will screw up your computer with MN script.

It's not so much that it was a newbish question. In fact newbish questions, and all questions are more then welcome here on MMI.

The problem is, is that lately, these threads have become nothing more then 2 pages of intelligent conversation and question, and 20 pages of the same type of questions over and over again.

It's almost as if people have stopped reading, and just want to say "look at my question, answer me!"

So it's not that it's a newbish question, it's just that it has been answered at least 5 times already in the preceding pages.

Now, I'm not going to be one of those people who say "Google is your friend". Obviously a good google search is what lead you here. However making somewhat of an effort to read the proceeding pages (and I know they have become a ***** to sort through because of all the redundancy) is always helpful.

But to answer. Yes wait for the dev's. There will be a big banner on the front page telling you about it :-)

I had the same problem. Follow this step and you should be fine.

      1) uninstall itunes 8.2
      2)Go to -> My documents
      3)Go to -> My Music
4)and you should have a folder named "iTunes"
5)Delete this folder (you WILL lose your library!!)
      6)Restart your computer
      7)Install itunes 8.1
      8) READY TO GO!

ps. Why you want to have 8.1? Dev-team said is ok to install 8.2 ad their tools will work with it (no ssh though)

I updated and I don't have a problem with my apps. I guess it's just with some people in different firmware and baseband's

if your iphone is already jailbroke you won't have any problems!
the post was telling that when 8.2 was realeased it has some security settings and if you would try to jailbreak an iphone by QuickPwn on 2.2 (for yellowsn0w) you couldn't do that.
But with the realese of the v3.0 the dev-team realeased new softwares that can work on 8.2

no you won't lose your contacts. Those are from your email program, not iTunes.

Put your phone in DFU mode (Google it) then restore to 2.2.1 Firmware... jailbreak if you'd like after that.
