  • BTW - This New Cydia is FAST and Awesome

So you've probably heard there is a new version of Cydia, which is included in the recent tethered jailbreak redsn0w release. We've been testing it and chatting with chpwn and saurik about the differences in it, and thought we'd get a solid list of changes published.

chpwn did a lot of work on many visual tweaks, and as saurik put it "some of my long term performance plans are 'hitting pay dirt', and Cydia is much faster than it was before; that said, it isn't done yet: there's one more thing that I think is going to make a huge difference that isn't even in there yet but should be for the final release." And that's the biggest improvement as far as many are concerned - it's just way faster. Loading the Changes tab in my iPhone 4 is now nearly as quick as the AppStore.

Here's a list of just some of the improvements:
    • reduced loading changes time
    • section remapping optimizations
    • faster reloading data
    • faster, native search
    • uses public SDK classes whenever possible
    • rewritten, faster web views with zooming support
    • changes badge works again
    • more stable webviews (no crashes when queueing)
    • redesigned settings page
    • redesigned stashing page
    • faster scrolling of table views
    • bug fixes
    • ads no longer break the package views until restart
    • much better queueing UI
    • stabler refreshing bar
    iPad improvements:
    • - landscape
    • - popovesr
    • - modal views that cover only a portion of the screen
    • - less annoying errors with bad internet connections downloading packages
    • - updated section mappings, less typo'd sections

A QUICK NOTE - THIS VERSION OF CYDIA IS NOT QUITE READY FOR ALL 3.X USERS, SO ONLY INSTALL IT IF YOU'RE ON 4.X.

This version of Cydia is included in the recent redsn0w release, but if you're on an iPhone 4 or other already jailbroken device, you can actually install it straight from your iDevice. The absolute easiest way to do so is make sure you have iFile and Safari Download Manager installed, then visit http://apt.saurik.com/cydia/debs/cyd...honeos-arm.deb from your device. Remember where you download it to, and navigate there with iFile afterwards. Tap the deb it and choose install - done!

Cydia is growing up so fast.

That's what I and others asked. No comments yet. Sucks. I've found if u scroll very slowly-it won't crash when looking at packages. Crashed too when I looked under sections. Now that I've had updated for a couple days-it's really not that fast like I thought.

i saw on another site (sinful) that there is another cydia update out... its 1.0.3366-7 anyone know about this? i think it just incorporates some minor bug fixes
      Link here:
      cydia_1.0.3366.7.iphoneos-arm.deb

the post says its for 4.x only, so we will see. I tested it on my iphone 4, 4.1, pois0ned, and it seems to run well.

i've had my Cydia updated since 3 days ago and i've noticed that the start up is going back to it's old ways with that annoying "Reloading Data" spin wheel. it didn't have that when i updated it but somehow it's back. scrolling through a package or loading a package is way better than the old one. it's like instant and it's actually pretty quick on Edge too. i just want the start up to be quick again like when i first updated! is anyone else having the start-up issue?

how's so? it's much easier(for those that have no knowledge in ssh'ing) and convenient (don't have to deal with ssh'ing) than ssh'ing!

Load Cydia more often and the reloading wait time will decrease as there will be fewer changes to the repos each time.

This fixed the "crash when scrolling in manage packages" for me.

      Thanks!

So if I'm reading this correctly. I can't upgrade to the new cydia yet. I am running 3GS with modem firmware (baseband?) 5.13.04. And IOS 4.0.1 I Ihave jailbroke with jailbreakme.com about 2 months ago. Yes I'm a newbie. So far with the old cydia I have had no problems but looking forward to the update. My question is when I consensus available will it show up in the cydia as an update?

I'm a little confused, but from what you've said, you can upgrade to the new cydia, cause you're on 4.0.1 but no, it's not going to show up in the 'changes' tab within cydia. you will need two things. ifile and safari downloader. these are both paid cydia apps. around 10 bucks for the both of them. but there are ways to get them cracked..but I'm not going to say over this cause I might get banned! so just msg me If you're still interested. good luck

You do NOT need any paid app!

You could just transfer the deb file via sftp to your iPhone and then install it via SSH connection from your computer or through MobileTerminal on your device.

      But there's an easier way:
Add the following source to Cydia:
      http://iphoneroot.com/repo/

There you will find the "Cydia Installer".

This information can be found in this thread somewhere already, the first post should be updated with this unless there is a monetary conflict

      Open mobile terminal
Type "su" in lower case, hit enter
Type "alpine" as password, hit enter
      Type "cd Media" then enter.
Do keep in mind that mobile terminal WILL NOT turn off caps lock by itself. You must disable it after you type "M".

Then type "cd Downloads" then enter
      Then type "dpkg -i cydia_1.0.3366-1_iphoneos-arm.deb"
Then wait until it's done unpacking and and then respring.

Much props, and praise to iPh0neCrack3r!!!
Thank you, finally got it working.
