  • Apple Quietly Updates MobileMe Web Apps.

Apple has updated its MobileMe software but has not noted it in its MobileMe news blog or otherwise notified subscribers. The only indication is an article on the company support site.

The article says "Apple is always working to improve MobileMe. Since MobileMe is primarily a server-side, or 'cloud'-based, service, the MobileMe team can make improvements and push updates to MobileMe without any action being required of MobileMe customers. Since server-side updates are a bit more innocuous than a standard software update to Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows, it's easy not to notice that updates are occurring. Usually the only hint of these updates is that things just 'work better.'"

The MobileMe update has improved several areas; In accounts, data transfer details are more accurate, an inaccuracy in reporting used storage on Group iDisks is improved, storage allocation menu on family pack sub accounts is improved and users are now logged out of the entire MobileMe session.

MobileMe Mail has also been updated. Keyboard short cuts for “reply all” functions have been fixed, greater compatibility with Internet Explorer 7 has been achieved along with junk mail filtration, and a loading graphic is now displayed instead of a blank page.

Calendar updates include; better performance with recurring events and with large numbers of To Do items, improved handling of international time zones, faster performance on Firefox 3, and overall faster loading time for Calender.

Contacts features vCard export and improved IE7 performance.

Galleries can be viewed much more easyily on the iPhone and iPod touch, a display issue of the buttons has been corrected on Firefox 3, and photo information between the MobileMe website and published photos on the gallery.me.com site has been improved.

I have not noticed any significant improvements, MobileMe does just seem to “work better” though in some areas, mainly Calendar for me.

Admit it, AppleChic - MobileMe is still crap. The cloud method has much to be desired. Maybe it will be better in a year or two, but it's still slow and not reliable. I have a MobileMe account, and I barely use it on a Windows PC, because it runs too slowly. We need automatic push for e-mail yesterday!! Come on, AppleChic, crack that whip on that Granny Smith!

That's a bit harsh. It's better than nothing...I've become used to her posting reliable news on the mark. It may not always appeal to me but I don't say anything because I probably couldn't write it better (if at all). If you don't like what is being said, simply move on; don't reply to it.

If we all "moved on" rather than replying to a post, many MANY posts would be filled with remarks stating how perfect things are, when they are not. I would look at my post as constructive criticism rather than "harsh" as you said it was. She writes news reviews, how else will she know if what she writes is good or interesting if we don't respond to it?

What exciting Apple news would you have rather seen written about? It's not the writer's fault that the actual subject doesn't appeal to you. The fact that the writer had to go investigate this issue rather than just looking at headlines is commendable in my opinion. If you don't like the low excitement of the article then I suggest finding someone else and post it in the user news section... if it's worthy and well written we'll move it to the home news page.

I think it's time you logged off MMi and picked up a well diagramed book "Guide to the Dissection of the Dog." Please, there are going to be a lot of animals counting on you!

I should be a MMi writer, how hard can it be???? Not hard if I'm an A star student in English at GCSE, I live in England btw.
Go to iClarified or google "iPhone" and click on the latest news results, to be upto date. MobileMe never worked for me, I tried it through the 60 day free trial period.

Where's pf or cash's news????????????At least their news is interesting

it's not that bad, and I didn't spend $100. I'm on their 6 month trial

What I find really funny is AppleChic's ridiculous sig. I think therefor I mac! ??? You have to be freakin kidding me. Macs are for people who A. Lack the logic to actually understand how a machine works and need a helping hand through everything. B. Don't do anything on there machine but type on forums and send email.

You can't think differently about how you use your machine when you use a mac. You use the MAC the one way it was designed and intended to be used. I don't really consider being so forced into using your machine a very specific way thinking differently. On the PC I theres many many different ways I can do things on my comp and I have far more choices as to what software and hardware I want to use or not use. This in turn gives me far more freedom and control over how I want to do various tasks on my computer.

In short, PC's are for the power users that like to think about more efficent and creative ways to use there machines, Macs are for users who need everything done for them.

On a small side note, if you're really a serious Audiophile that cares immensely for music and the quality of the music you listen too the last thing you would ever want to buy is a machine running OSX.

Yeah, it's just as retarded as a .MAC account. Why does apple think they can keep charging so much for services that are easily accessable and free elswhere on the net. Oh, yeah, becuase they cater to such a low level, low knowledge user base that a good chunk of there clientell simply doesn't know any better.

Really realy sad how Apple still continues to prey on the weak minded.

Clearly people are saying that they are displeased with the product doing what it does for the high cost of 99 bucks a year... sure sync and push is worth paying NOTHING for, which you do. Once you are out of the trial will you pay for it? THAT is what the discussion is about...
