  • Made on Mac: Microsoft "I'm a PC" Ads.

Microsoft launched their "I'm a PC" ad campaign recently to combat the popular "I'm a Mac" ads that have been running as far as we can remember now. Shouldn't "I'm a PC ads" be made with a PC, since PCs are the greatest and all?

"A PC is not a stereotype. And neither are you. If you’re a PC, you belong to a community of more than a billion individuals, working, playing, and connecting. Doing their own thing. If you’re a PC, we want to celebrate you. So stand up."

Well, the above is true of course, unless you're doing activities like making advertisements for Windows I guess. If that is the case then of course you use a Mac. Late last week it was discovered that the images running on Microsoft's ad campaign website life without walls were made on a Macs running Adobe Creative Suite 3 by simply looking at the images metadata (which stores the program and OS the images were created with among other things).

When questioned about their use of Macs for their I'm a PC ad campaign Microsoft responded:

"As is common in almost all campaign workflow, agencies and production houses use a wide variety of software and hardware to create, edit and distribute content, including both Macs and PCs."

And shortly after Microsoft scrubbed the offending metadata out of all their images to hide that yes, they do use Macs.

I run tons of PC only audio system control software on my Mac. VMWare Fusion does a great job at it. AND, if XP crashes and burns, which it does occasionally, I don't loose my sound fx playback on the Mac side via QLab. Best of both worlds really, with a Mac. It certainly does come down to preference, but since I switched many years ago, I wouldn't think of buying a PC.

You mean what laptop does the conference use for their presentations. At things like this which have multiple speakers they set up a computer with the projector and sound system, then the speakers just open their powerpoint file and hit play. If everyone had to set up their own laptop it would take friggin forever.

Who cares? Mac/PC. I have both. They both do the job. I think its funny how people "think they are better" than other people because they use a Mac. I'm sure Bill has many macs, and Jobs has no PC's. So what, if Apple truly wants to take over they would drop their price drastically, and you know why they don't? Its not because they want to be "exclusive." They know they can't run the world like the PC does.

This is sort of funny, but there is some amount of ignorance in this humor. Do you really think that Microsoft has a "movie studio" setup that they make ads with? The answer is no... They contract someone to do it for them (which sounds like a cop-out, but is in honest answer and is the answer they gave). Embarrassing, yes. Are they going to restrict the machines used by their people? No... that would be pompous and conceited of them. Would Apple pull this move? I'll leave that one for you to figure out!

And to those saying that macs are better for graphic and web design, arguing against it is just not a battle worth taking. Hell, if you want me to say it, they ARE better. But they aren't so much better that PC is unusable in every way aforementioned. Personally, it has nothing to do with MS thinking that macs are better... the people they paid to make the ad do, however, and this is fine.

Let's just quit being fanboys and stop warring about "which is better" and agree to disagree. Instead ask "which is better for me?" I HAVE a Mac and a handful of PCs. For me, nothing beats the amount of software, hardware, and games you can get for PCs. What is best for me? PC What is best for you? Find out for yourself. It's fun!

Yje price thing is actually more because they don;t allow companies like AOL and all those other crap trial softwares to advertise on their preloaded OS...

Funny that, since I'm one of those designing the technology thats going to replace the current and almost obsolete technology that runs your PCs and Macs and just about every other electronic device you know of right now.

Maybe I'll take the day off work tomorrow and it'll design it self.

what you said is garbage. with the exception of what you said about finder. everything is garbage. if the vista menus arent simple enough for you then something's wrong with you. and you dont have to minimize anything to access the desktop. what os were YOU using? lol
anyways, im not a PC fanboy or anything, because i secretly want a mac , but the points you brought up are neither here nor there and dont make a good argument.

Since when is anything anyone has said in this thread -with the exception of a couple moderators and mildly intelligent individuals- really been a 'good argument'?
