  • iVideoCamera: Video Recording For The iPhone 2G/3G. AppStore Approved

It appears Apple really is loosening it's grip on what developers can submit to the AppStore. I received an email today that informed me of a new App in the AppStore called iVideoCamera that lets your record about 15fps on any iPhone.

Although this makes me wonder, with Apple being so kind to the new handful of Video apps, does this mean that we might be seeing OS 3.2 soon? And could it possibly include the addition of video recording for the iPhone 2G/3G? It's quite possible at this point, as they wouldn't want too many apps "duplicating" a function that "already exists".

iVideoCamera also gives you the ability to save to your camera roll or "Photos" and share via, FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and more to come. With the approval of this App the devs are very excited to start updates. First Knocking, then UStream, I wonder what we will see next in the lineup of Video apps...

iVideoCamera is available in the AppStore for $0.99.

UPDATE: With the approval of this App, the developers were so excited they submitted an update for it already that improves quality with better resolution.

Thanks to Niko Niittyranta for the tip

From the official iTunes description: Fps is stated differently for some reason
NOTE: Requires OS 3.1 so if you dont have it upgrade now.

    ** LIMITATIONS **
    - The iPhone can only capture about 3 frames per second
    - Videos are limited to about 1 minute in length
    - Resolution is low: 160x213

The article says 15 fps, then it says 3 fps. Which is it? If it's only 3 fps what's the point at all in this program? If it really is 3 fps, then no one would want to see those videos, stick to still photography.

meh OS 3.0 is so much better than 3.1. due to the fact that it doesn't drain as much battery.

sad news for OS 3.0 user like me

It's good to finally see the AppStore approving an app like this. Still think I'm gonna hold off on it until it can record more than 3 fps and longer than a minute. Can't wait for an update.

My Thoughts exactly. Hence my suspicion of OS 3.2 around the corner that might possibly enable video recording / editing on the 2G/3G. Fingers crossed.

You know, that would be so cool and show a step of progress for apple, but I think apple might have a lot of angry customers on their hands who paid 199/299$ and + to get that commercialized feature on the new 3GS and now its going to be offered on the old product. That doesn't seem likely.

This is good. Soon we're gonna see Winterboard and Background on the AppStore! (BigBoss should submit to the AppStore, see what happens!)

They should be but they are going to make 30% off every sale of this app and even more off every 3GS since it has video capability built in. They should, but they'd rather make money over doing what's right by the customer.

I'm afraid of the 3.2 update. It's been a really long time coming and I just wonder what anti-jailbreak stuff they've baked into it.
