Calling it "the very first interactive and self-guided university campus tour App for the iPhone and iPod touch," the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina announced the release of their new iPhone app as an innovative way for students to get to know the four-year college.
The College of Charleston Tour app is a free download available on iTunes. It has Google Maps integration to show the distance to and location of each of the more than 20 places of interest around the university that are highlighted in the tour. The multimedia portion features 18 videos of the campus and 60 still images of daily student life at the College of Charleston.
Four College of Charleston students narrate the multimedia elements, which lead the viewer around the historic campus, with views inside "nearly every building, including the President’s House."
"We are excited to be the first university to offer a campus tour through an iPhone application," says College of Charleston President George Benson. "This innovative application will allow us to connect with prospective students around the globe and to showcase our historic campus using the latest in digital media and mobile technology."
The application was developed by City Slicker, an interactive multimedia firm based in Charleston. City Slicker developed Charleston City Slicker, the first self-guided walking tour for the iPhone, which was selected as "Staff Favorite" and "Pick of the Week" on the iTunes App Store.
College of Charleston, founded in 1770, bills itself as the first municipal college in the United States. It has almost 10,000 undergraduate students and 1,400 grad students.
