  • Multifl0w - The Future of iPhone Multitasking with Backgrounder

Status Updated: Multifl0w is available through ModMyI repo now.

We've all seen the Palm Pre and HTC ads that boast about the ability to multitask. Why Apple did not include this still blows my mind (yeah yeah, battery usage my ***. then make a better battery. We NEED to multitask). What better productivity tool is there than being able to multitask with your available apps?!

Thankfully for us Jailbroken users, this idea of multitasking has been possible for quite some time now with the use of an app called Backgrounder by Lance Fetters (ashikase), available in Cydia for free.

While this app has definitely been a heaven-sent gift for us multitaskers, there has definitely been a need to have more efficient access to currently running apps. At this time, Backgrounder provides a little badge beside the App icons to indicate which are currently running, which was a good start.

Very shortly Backgrounder's new best friend, Multifl0w will be introduced. Multifl0w, developed by @aaronash, is your newest, baddest, kick *** UI for backgrounder apps. With the ability to see which apps are open and swipe through them to quickly open them, just like the good ol Palm Pre commercials.

Backgrounder will be required alongside this app. You won't be able to run kirikae and multifl0w at the same timem but still a huge win for Jailbroken users, as usual.

Aaron tweeted today that we could see Multifl0w as soon as tonight or tomorrow morning on Cydia or Rock. The Developer has also mentioned that the app will be a Paid app costing somewhere in the $4-6 range. He had also mentioned that it should be available in both Cydia and Rock.

For now, here's a video and some screenshot. Let us know what you think.

I have a 3G , This App is great and does work!

BUT i had to uninstall it , as this App is only workeable on the 3gs , anything else lower than a 3gs will strip your phone memory and i mean STRIP it till your phone keeps rebooting.

Ill also take a mental note to never ever use ROCK again , endless problems with that always, on my phone and friends phones grrr
Good App though if you have a 3gs , install Rock , get the App then uninstall Rock , mind you i wont even touch rock again.

You jailbreak to have access to applications not available through AppStore, no one said all JB apps are free. I have a 3G w Rock, Intelliscreen, MyWi and about 10 mobile substrate addons and this app works well, no rebooting or any other issues.

I've put this through the paces at work. I have a 3G so I won't be holding Cydia, Rock or any other heavy-hitter on background but I can use Mail, Contacts, Calculator, Calendar, Messages and Facebook just fine. I'm sold!

Two things this needs before it truely more useful than Kirake. First is a way to close the apps from the selection screen. 2nd is a way to quick launch favorite apps, so that you dont have to go back to the main springboard to select it while in an app.

But it does run well on my 3GS and is very pretty.

Just tried it. Went from 96 percent to 91 percent with only 3 apps backgrounded in a matter of about 2 minutes. When I looked up and saw I dropped 5 percent that fast I went straight to rock and uninstalled it.

Been using kirikae the same way and haven't changed battery percentage at all.

using the trial now. works amazing. can't wait for the updates. needs a little red x on each app to be able to close from within multifl0w. and apps should be laid out like pages like on the preview.
both of these suggestions have already been made and are already probably being worked on. just wanted to add my vote

Tried this. I think more works are needed to make this useable. For now, I still prefer Kirikae. I hate having to swipe swipe swipe, which is why I like Overboard/Orbit. Kirikae lets me see what are running and jump to any active application without having to swipe swipe swipe swipe.

Why not have a thumbnail page display similar to that used in Overboard, and show all active applications on ONE page?

Just installed the trail to try it out. Just like you said, my battery was at 68% and after playing with it for less than a couple minutes my battery had dropped all the way to 60%.

Is anyone else having these battery issues?
Is anyone else missing a preview image for the mail app?

Besides the battery issues, I think it's a great idea. Definitely needs some updates already, such as, a way to close a running app, preview for the mail app, and maybe a more visually appealing look to it.

Try turning off from SBSettings, reboot, re-enable On (will respring). Also no noticeable battery draining issue.
