  • Study Finds iPhone Users Want More Power

    "I... must... have... more... power!"

It seems that legendary line from Star Trek can now be attributed to millions of Apple customers, too.

Strategy Analytics is out with a new study - conveniently titled "Retaining and Attracting New Customers: Profiling the Apple iPhone User" - revealing that iPhone users want more power.

Of all the ideal features Apple customers can envision for future updates to the iPhone, their low satisfaction with battery life far surpasses other concerns, like the quality of the device's camera, for example.

    From IT Wire:

Strategy Analytics’ senior user experience analyst, Paul Brown, says part of the problem is the iPhone users’ higher use of battery-draining features than non-iPhone users.
“iPhone owners use more features on a regular basis than non-iPhone owners, with two-thirds browsing the web and sending personal emails daily—features which will considerably drain battery life.”
The study, which in some aspects in insightful, isn't really telling us anything we don't already know or haven't yet complained about in the last two years since the iPhone took the world by storm. If anything, since 2007, iPhone junkies like myself have become more vocal about their beef with concerns relating to some of the issues broached in this study. In fact, no longer are iPhone users just excited to have this cool new toy. We've now come to be so dependent on it - for work, play, and, in some cases, our livelihood - that we not only want better, we also demand better.

In this regard, Kevin Nolan, VP at Strategy Analytics, hit the nail on the head, "Given the importance placed on features and style by existing iPhone owners, it is important for Apple to continue to provide innovative, compelling devices, while recognizing the need for improved battery strength."

What else did the report find?
    • The typical iPhone owner is aged 25-44
    • Over 80% of iPhone owners also own an iPod
    • iPhone owners exhibit high brand loyalty

Seriously, a day of heavy texting (just texting, not even web browsing) on any phone I've ever played with has completely depleted its battery by night time.
You're right that no phone can last the whole day with just a fixed battery. That's why they make their battery replaceable so that we can swap in a second one to last the rest of the day. This is the reason why I kept saying that the solution is for Apple to change its design so that we can do the same like we can with any other phone.

I have been pleasently suprised with the lg dares batterhy which i think they are using in other lg phones now, it will go a week with little texting and calling(maybe 6 days) and ussually 2 days of good use1 day if you dont have a life but i've never ran out in a day. The iphone is different though because things like movies or apps will hurt it battery life tremendously

Apple will never make the battery removable.

It will allow you noobs to easily break the phone. And what if you remove the battery in the middle of a software update.

I'm glad apple will never implement this. The iPhone is a solid, stable, THIN device. A removable battery would make it rattle, would make it fatter, and uglier.

The only answer is better battery technology. Unfortunatly development in this technology is slow.

Who said it had to be big?!? What about the solar powered watches? They're the same size as a normal watch and some are smaller.

I solved my power problem with my solar battery charger holder, while I'm driving, on the beach, in a camp anywhere where I got sun light I got power, even at night because it have an internal battery that keeps the charge. IT DON'T LOOK BIG, is not an connector like those that I saw on some sites that add like 2 inches more long. Anyway, you think is better to have an iphone slim without charge, or one a little bit bigger with charge all the time? Problem solved
