You know him.. you love him.. yes I'm talking about our good friend and renowned developer Big Boss! He has designed an alternative (or supplemental) application to theme your device called Bosspaper. As with all other Big Boss apps it's FREE!

UPDATE: This app is out of BETA and should be available in the regular Cydia BigBoss repo. Version 1.0. Enjoy.

You must be on 3.0 to run this app.

    Via BigBoss blog:

I have been working on a new FREE app called “BossPaper”. This is a very configurable advanced wallpaper app that lets you control what wallpaper shows up on your SpringBoard. You may be saying, “But Winterboard does that!” Sort of, but not like this. BossPaper can work with Winterboard (or without). Read on for details.

Last year, Saurik released Winterboard. This enabled some new features none of us have ever seen before such as rotating desktop wallpapers via Javascript HTML pages. While this was revolutionary for us iPhone owners, it also came at a cost. Performance running these themes sucks. There are a few ways the Javascript based images can be implemented and all of them have problems. If you load them all into memory, Springboard uses a signficant amount of memory. If you fade them, Springboard uses a lot of CPU. Javascript is very memory / CPU heavy. In addition, the Javascript runs behind all applications and while applications run. This impacts performance heavily and causes apps to lag even while you’re using them and not on SpringBoard. In addition, the script continues to run even while the iPhone is locked draining battery.

I have had it on my list to solve this for a while. The result is BossPaper. BossPaper is an advanced wallpaper manager that puts total control of wallpapers into your hands. BossPaper has these features:

You control which images are displayed. You can use camera roll, installed themes, or a combination of! With Winterboard, you could only install a theme and use what came with it. Now you can use images from many themes or other sources such as BossPaper packs.
You can use your own images from the camera!
BossPaper stops rotating images as soon as an app launches. This prevents battery and CPU drain.
BossPaper stops rotating images as soon as the iPhone is locked. This prevents battery drain.
BossPaper uses very little memory and CPU! It does not inject into apps only SpringBoard so you should not notice any application lag running it.
BossPaper can use one of many transitions such as fade, water drop, page curl - you configure which one(s) you want. Configure how long the transitions last.
BossPaper lets you control when to rotate images. You can rotate it on a timer you configure or you can rotate when an app closes, or both!
BossPaper lets you hide icon labels so those that do not want to install Winterboard can use it without.
BossPaper lets you dim the wallpaper.

Features missing in the current BETA release are:

    1) Ability to select a single image. If you want a single image make a folder with that image for now.

    2) Ability to exclude a single image or images. For now you have to delete it off the folder. In future you will have a way to tell it to not load that image again.

    3) Photos - Camera roll is working because these are photos. If you sync pictures using iTunes, these are actually no longer images but an sqllite database of images. Therefore, you cannot use these images. (I haven’t tested this very much. So it could be in accurate).

    4) I may examine lock background as well, although I am worried about performance. The lock background should be stationary so that you dont drain your battery while locked. I will think about this more.

It's not dumb at all. It's for people that prefers to see different wallpaper at a preset time and not see the same wallpaper all the time. You must like more than one wallpaper, right? So instead of changing it manually, this program does it for you automatically. Also, it doesn't kill battery as when your phone locks, it stops rotating. How does that consume battery life?

I do like the BossPaper app very much however it would be nice to be able to toggle it on or off via SBSettings to save several key strokes to start the app, turn it off, etc.

I've been using BossPaper since the 1'st of this month and I must say it is still running unbelievably smooth. I haven't noticed any extra battery drain or loss of performance do to the program either. This is truly a "top notch" application even in it's current (beta) state.

BossPaper doesn't affect Winterboard at all. You can still use any theme you like (ofcourse not the ones the rotates wallpaper or it will conflict with BossPaper) or any customization in Winterboard. What you have to do is setup Bosspaper to your liking and then you have to choose User Wallpaper in Winterboard. If you don't choose User Wallpaper in Winterboard, BossPaper will not work. I think that's pretty easy to follow.
just what i was looking for! thanks. my springboard was acting laggy before i did this

So Its ok to see Bosspaper listed in Winterboard? Cause when I opened Winterboard, Bosspaper is one of the first programs listed with a check mark next to it. Is this how its suppose to be?

Bosspaper looks pretty cool...makes me wish I use rotating wallpapers, but since I don't, no benefit to me. I'm sure it'll be great for those that need it, however.

Is it just me, or has no one mentioned that this is now out of Beta and V1.0 is available through cydia?

Oh really? I hadn't even noticed but I haven't opened up Cydia in a while to check for updates either so thanks for mentioning it.

Yes, it has been in Cydia store for a day or two now. I check the Cydia store for new update everyday and installed it the moment it first appeared.

      I like it.

There is a free Applestore application called Background, with lots of very nice wallpaper that you can save to your camera roll. Then, you can use Bosspaper to pick those that you like.

Is there anywhere to get help for BossPaper? I can’t get it to find any of my synchronized photo albums. I hate how the iPhone forces you to put everything in “Camera Roll,” and I don’t want to clutter it with wallpaper or photos of contacts, so I created my own folders before synchronization. Unfortunately, BossPaper doesn’t find any of these folders – and furthermore, finds the system Wallpaper folder even though it doesn’t exist per iPhone “photos.”

I know. I put all my wallpaper art in Camera Roll and just have to live with it. Since I keep all my personal photos on my laptop anyway, it works out for me.
I have a lot of nineteenth century engraving an nice photos which I tweak and color using Tripping Fest, Artisan, or Brushes. It makes for really personalized wallpaper, which I love.

The only reason I used Winterboard in the past is the background-option. Unfortunately, Winterboard made the phone laggy, and so last week I decided to change to BossPaper.

Oke, I know BossPaper is supposed to be fast, but really: my springboard is a lot more snappier with Winterboard! No fancy add-ons installed, only SBSettings... I'm on FW 3.1

The lag is killing me: is it supposed to cause (minor) dribbling of the springboard when sliding across my springboards? Or is this a 3.1 issue?

I can't imagine everyone being so happy with it while looking at what I see... Must be something wrong at my side :-)

A friend of mine is trying to use this on his 16gb 3GS and it constantly resprings him to the lockscreen when he tries to open an app. He has tried it using only 2 images and it drops his RAM down causing the respring.

I have 19 pics rotating on my 32gb 3GS and it is smooth sailing. It is strange.

I've just installed this App from Cydia and stumbled across this same problem. Using the camera roll is not ideallic since pics you take end up there and are very different from your beautifully created/downloaded wallpapers.

Is there a work around to get Bosspaper to recognise and use the user created folders??

      Help will be Appreciated Thanks
