  • 3G4: N64 Emulator for iPhone 3GS [Preview]

3G4, is a Nintendo 64 emulator developed by NWorksDev, for the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3rd Gen. Yup, your gonna need some juice for this bad boy!

Just recently there was a video released that demos the project thus far. It appears to be legit and runs incredibly smooth. The controller layout looks great and saves screen real estate. However, there are no L, R, or Z buttons at the moment.

The developer claims to be 14 years old, and says that "something deemed impossible is being brought to us by a 14 year old developer". Unfortunately he has said the release will not be until April 2010.

3G4 could possibly become first native Nintendo 64 emulator for the iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch 3G. ZodTTD has also been working on a Nintendo 64 Emulator, but unfortunately we have heard no news on in some time. By the looks of it though, ZodTTD will probably release something before this unlad anyways.

There are of course the usual problems with any project in development such as "duplicate button registers, delay of presses, and crashes when heavy gameplay occurs. "

Here is said video below for your viewing pleasure. I will try and get a review of this as soon as I can get my hands on it. Stay tuned.

Here is what the developer has released as a "Trailer"

I can assure you guys this is not fake. I was even scared to put that video up because of some odd movement. Its only the emulator. Like i said before it does screw up the controls a bit so im looking into fix that.

Anyway, its scheduled for March/April 2010 and its hard to wait to release it!
      Thanks for the support guys!

Speaking of zodttd does anyone know if you have already paid for his nes emulator if you get a free upgrade to the new version with wii-mote support?

I like how in the trailer the kid feels the need to brag that "something deemed impossible is being brought to us by a 14 year old developer" First of all who deemed it impossible? Nobody that I know of. If you want to do what is currently deemed impossible crack the PS3 and bluray protection. Don't get me wrong, if this is real, it is impressive. Even more so if the dev. really is 14. But modesty really does go a long way here kid...

That, along with the April 2010 release date makes this underwhelming. By that time Zodtdd will have his N64 emulator out and prolly running good on a 3G. Impressive but it seems now much ado about nothing

Well again im not boasting about anything, im just saying its something that other people have DEEMED impossible, not as much say it WAS impossible. Im not bragging a lot, but i do realize the trailer was going a little far in point to the 'impossible' scheme. And yes im 14.

Thanks and didnt mean to sound boasty or anything

Its not impressive unless hes 12 or under, as anyone 13 is considered a man in my tradition.

That and he probably just stole the source from any number of mac os x n64 emulators.

Just a thought as no youngun could code it from the ground up for 2 reasons: lack of sufficient experience and lack of an educated background.

I'm glad I bought the iPod touch 3rd gen. I can't believe how smoothly it ran in the video considering the playstation emulator is slow. Unless the playstation one actually requires a faster processor and graphics card.

i agree 100 percent that it will need some kind of external remote. Imagine how hard it was be to do 'ground pounds' in mario with a Z button at the top of the screen or something. You'd have to be using some pretty weird hand positions or something.
