  • Snow Leopard sales double Leopard's

Despite the lack of a big-marquee new feature, initial sales of Snow Leopard were more than two times higher than Leopard's, and almost four times higher than Tiger's, according to marketing research company The NPD Group.

“Even though some considered Snow Leopard to be less feature-focused than the releases of Leopard or Tiger, the ease of upgrading to Snow Leopard and the affordable pricing made it a win-win for Apple computer owners - thus helping to push sales to record numbers” said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD.
Noting that Snow Leopard sales dipped only 25 percent in the second week (as compared to 60 percent for both Leopard and Tiger), NPD credited the low cost and ease of upgrading for the surprisingly strong result.

Although The NPD Group's report released no sales numbers, Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster had predicted Snow Leopard would sell five million units in September, and that it would bring Apple an additional $66 million in income, boosting stock prices by five cents per share.
