  • OSX 10.5.7 Finally Out, Last Stop to Snow Leopard!

Apple has finally release the much awaited and the last major update for leopard, till their next OSX release- Snow Leopard! Apple has been busy, constantly updating 10.5.7 and seeding it to developers in short periods for the past few weeks and now it's here.

The update of course is a big leap for Leopard over 10.5.6 which was released few months ago. As usual, the update comes in two flavors - combo (729 MB) for updating from any version of OSX 10.5 and the delta version (442 MB) to upgrade from 10.5.6.

The list of changes is quite huge.

    * Includes latest security fixes.
    * Includes additional RAW image support for several third-party cameras.
    * Improves performance of video playback and cursor movements for recent Macs with NVIDIA graphics.
    * Resolves an issue with Dvorak keyboard layout in Mac OS X 10.5.6.
    * Improves the reliability and accuracy of Unit Converter, Stocks, Weather and Movies Dashboard widgets.
    * Addresses a situation that may cause issues when logging into Gmail.
    * Improves reliability when syncing contacts with Yahoo!.
    * Expansion Slot Utility for Mac Pro now reports the correct PCIe slot configuration.
    * Improves network performance when connected to certain Ethernet switches that have Flow Control enabled.
    * Improves stability for network home directories hosted by Mac OS X Server v10.4.
    * Improves Finder search results for network volumes that may not support Spotlight searching, such as Mac OS X Server v10.4, Time Capsule, and third-party AFP servers.
    * Includes several improvements to Directory Service and Client Management, which are described in the About Mac OS X Server 10.5.7 Update article.

    * Improves overall reliability with CalDav.
    * Improves reliability when automatically syncing with MobileMe.

    * Addresses reliability and sync issues with Notes.
    * Addresses an issue that may cause the BCC field to populate incorrectly when redirecting a message from the Sent mailbox.

    Parental Controls

    * Improves consistency with Parental Controls and application restrictions.
    * Addresses an issue in which time limits may not work properly with full-screen games and Fast User Switching.

    * Resolves an issue that may cause certain third-party printers to print to the incorrect paper tray.
    * Non-admin user accounts can now be allowed to add and remove printers by enabling Parental Controls and selecting "Can administer printers".
    * Includes other printing reliability and stability improvements.
This version greatly increases the stability as well as security of the OS. You can get it from your familiar Software Update window

Does the keyboard count as a powered USB hub? If so, then that's not really proof of DFU mode working since you could use DFU mode on Mac OS X 10.5.6 through a powered USB hub.

Just installed 10.5.7 And I have had no problems what so ever. All though I am using a brand new MacBook Pro, And 4gig 320HD model.. So I did not think I would have any. I am wondering about Itunes and such. I won't be upgrading Itunes anymore..

Ok, before I did the install, I tried using "Software Update", and it was saying it was going to take anywhere from 2-8 hours. WTF. SO i went to the Apple website, and downloaded it directly. Restarted and it stayed at the Blue screen w/ the "rotating loading circle" for about 20 minutes. I knew somethign was wrong, but didn't want to interrupt the installation process. Then I just gave up and restarted manually. Then it rebooted on it's on a couple of times. I log in and my custom theme was still there.

Normally I have to reinstall the files manually, but they were still there. Checks "About This Mac" and it was 10.5.7, so I guess I'm okay.

I strongly suggest downloading the Combo Update. I did the delta update and ended up with a kernel panic (Gray Screen of Death) caused by a kernel extension version mismatch (AppleIntelPowerManagement). Fortunately I was able to upgrade my emergency OS on an external drive with the combo update and copy over the kernel extensions. Then I had to reapply the combo update to my main drive. Seems the delta update is causing people lots of grief.

Also, noticed that the IOUSBEthernet.kext was updated so I suspect this will fix the DFU issue people were having (haven't tried it yet)

I used the delta update and got a flashing blue/white screen. Stayed like that for a while so i decided to do a hard reset. After the hard reset i got the apple logo and the spinning wheel then it reseted by itself. It then got to the log in screen then resetted by itself one more time. Then, i got a real long boot up and everything seems to be okay. Now my MBP just takes longer to boot up. Should i dl the combo package and reinstall?

Unfortunately wasn't that easy for me... Removed the extension caches and rebooted about 4 times. System.kext (as well as some other extensions) were not updated which caused immediate kernel panics.

Used the combo update and had no issues. I was running 10.5.6 with DFU fix and have also lots of third party system mods. No issues at all. I would suggest the combo. I haven't heard anybody upgrading with the combo having problems
