  • Apple Confirms iPhone 4G is Legit And They Want It Back!

We'll folks, It looks like all of this buzz over the lost and found iPhone 4G prototype is indeed legit. So legit, that Apple has written a letter to Gizmodo demanding the "Stolen" iPhone back.

After countless efforts to get in touch with Apple, Mr. Lam has finally got the claim he was looking for, and has given Apple the information they need to get in touch with the fellow currently in clutching this "iPhone 4G" in their hands.

While this is very exciting news, one can still speculate what kind of return can be had from such an announcement. At this point in time, I'll take it as legit. But I'll also keep an open mind that this could all be a publicity stunt. We'll see what happens, maybe Gizomodo will video tape an Apple rep coming in to get the iPhone, because quite frankly, I don't know how else one could prove that Apple has claimed the "iPhone"

The letter from Apple was as follows:

    "Dear Mr. Lam,

It has come to our attention that GIZMODO is currently in possession of a device that belongs to Apple. This letter constitutes a formal request that you return the device to Apple. Please let me know where to pick up the unit.

    Sincerly,
    Bruce Sewell
Senior Vice President & General Counsel"
Here was the reply that Brian wrote back:

    Bruce, thanks.
Here's Jason Chen, who has the iPhone. And here's his address. You two should coordinate a time.
    [Blah Blah Blah Address]
Happy to have you pick this thing up. Was burning a hole in our pockets. Just so you know, we didn't know this was stolen [as they might have claimed. meaning, real and truly from Apple. It was found, and to be of unproven origin] when we bought it. Now that we definitely know it's not some knockoff, and it really is Apple's, I'm happy to see it returned to its rightful owner.
P.S. I hope you take it easy on the kid who lost it. I don't think he loves anything more than Apple.
And since this was the only missing piece of the puzzle, we have now both extinguished any doubts of its origin but also, we get to give the phone back. *warm, fuzzy, huggy feelings of legal compliance*
California law states, "If it is lost, the owner has three years to reclaim or title passes to the owner of the premises where the property was found. The person who found it had the duty to report it."

I wonder if Cupertino hires someone to just surf the net all day, and look for "intel" on sites such as this one?!

the only reason i believe its legit is because apple is notorious for keeping their stuffs top secret till the day its realeased. like completely out of the blue. but hey some rumours get to me too

I still think this is a big stunt by GIZMODO. Anyone could have written that letter.

just because its apple property doesnt mean its actually the next gen iphone it could be a test model they have been working on for a bit so doesnt necessarily mean that is what the new phone will look like

This seems like it was built to be more durable. I'm surprised so many people have a problem with that.

not digging the design if it's the final version. Looks like a step back IMO. Doesn't flow as well with the apple-sexy

      this is so obviously fake.

why in the world would apple say, "please let me know where to pick up the unit." that's the most ridiculous thing for anyone to say to confiscate an iphone.

I can't believe people are buying this nonsense haha

IDK....there is something really fishy about this situation...Weird the phone was gutted but all we know is what it looks like. Leaving us wondering until Jobs reveals it at the conference...Maybe apple wasn't sure how people would take to the new design so they planted a dummy phone to see the reaction it got to decide if its a go or no go...Just find it odd we know nothing other than how it looks...And if they bolt them to the workers desks, change passwords every few minutes, and have security guards making sure nobody is talking, why this guy would be approved to carry one while bar hopping??? He must have caught Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in bed together!

I'm sure he gets a few cents every time his website gets a hit...and with the news of him leaking the 4G and getting nearly 3.5 million hits in one day...he made his money back with enough to buy quite a few iPads to flip on Ebay

Dont give it away, Its not Apple, its the Chineses, trying to scam you out of it, then tell apple that they have it, and will release it for a few million dollars

that device is no way the 4G iphone! it doesn't look like anything, which apple would design. all the iphone 4g will be, is the same design, faster processor (nearing ipad speed) improve 3g, bigger storage, better camera, and a new randow feature apple chucks in (like the compass).

It is a prototype, so it isnt the final copy, but if Apple wants it back, there is obviously a chance that could be the 4G iPhone...

Im thinking this "leak" is a PR stunt. Jobs knows he is on center stage at the moment in the tech world, why not. Seriously. One of the most anticipated devices to date thats barely been confirmed by apple, the phone is found in a bar? Something doesnt add up here.
