  • "Barroom iPhone" Disassembled: Looks Legit
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxbHCR-W8zc]YouTube - Gizmodo: This Is Apple's Next iPhone[/ame]

    The plot thickens.

A supposed fourth-generation iPhone somehow made its way to Jason Chen of Gizmodo, with the story that it was found on the floor of a bar in either San Jose or Redwood City. Others claim it is an "open secret" that Chen bought the device from someone who stole it from Apple a week ago. However he came by it, once Chen had his hands on the device he did what any self-respecting modder would do: he took it apart. And what he found - components with Apple logos silkscreened on them, normal iTunes and System Profiler behavior (though with unique identifiers for any existing phone) - convinced him that this is the real deal.

As has long been rumored, the fourth-generation iPhone has a front-facing video chat camera. The rear-case camera lens is larger than the one on the iPhone 3GS, and there is a flash. The device uses a Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM, and apparently a glass or ceramic back. The display is apparently much improved. Chen said he couldn't figure out the resolution of the screen because he couldn't get past the "Connect to iTunes" icon: Apple had apparently remotely bricked the phone when they found out it was missing, but he says it was "impossible to discern individual pixels." The phone also has separate buttons for volume-up and volume-down that are metallic, as are the power and mute buttons. Chen also reports a secondary mic by the headphone jack that he believes is used for noise cancellation.

They found that the device had a fit and finish that convinced them it couldn't possibly be a fake. The kicker, though: John Gruber of Daring Fireball got word through one of his contacts at Apple that a prototype iPhone has gone missing... "and they want it back."

If this is truly the model it kinda sucks because they lose the sleekness of the 3Gs and opt for a more bulky, wannabe htc/nexus look.

im sure i will still get one though.

I read all your smart posts and I stand by what I said. The fact that you even ever thought that account was real (and worst, assuming its "commonly known") marks you as borderline retarded. Thank you for wasting one minute of my life trying to multi-quote your ignorance.

If it doesnt support 720 or 960 @ 30 or 60fps then im gonna be highly upset. Why make something so sexy but yet so out of date when it comes to video/picture quality. Obviously IF it does support HD, the CPU and the Harddrive have to be bigger. Have u ever tried to edit HD video on a slow pos CPU, LoL

This thing looks awful. It's all boxy and completely square. There is already phones out in the marketplace right now that have this same look. I wanted something that was unique in design and had the smooth, sleek feel that we are all accustom to. Having said that, I'm sure it will grow on me. So, when do they go on sell?

For everyone that doesn't like the new look of the new phone... Please enlighten us to what YOUR vision would have been. For those that didn't pay attn this phone is actually thinner than the current iPhone. The reason it's shaped like this is out of necessity because of the larger battery.. If they had contoured it again it would look the same so people would complain about that... Or they would have to make it bigger.

do i have to spell it out to you all? P-R-O-T-O-T-Y-P-E in other words, this is 100% legit, but it is just a prototype for the iphone 4g, and probably not the actual next gen phone.

How come there has been no C&D orders yet? Just curious; not calling it fake or real just wondering.

On G4's Attack of the Show they had a small segment on this and pointed out that the device was "remotely killed" shortly after it was found. Real or not atleast it doesn't look like every other iphone.

How is copying the same design from two years ago "unique"

The new model is smaller and borrows nothing from the htc/nexus one from what I can see. Also, unless I'm mistaken, being thinner and having flat surfaces as opposed to curved ones makes it sleeker. It'll be nice to not have a phone that rocks back and forth when you set it down.

Ditto! Totally agree. I ask again though, if this is real (which I think it very well could be), why don't they take it apart and show us the CPU and RAM!?

My question is this. If this is a clone, why hasn't anyone determined the actual maker yet? I've seen a couple from a couple of years ago that look close, but, not quite...

I read the latest article or update from Gizmodo. This is real, however will the final product look like that? I don't think so. IMHO Steve and company will spit and polish a bit more for the final production model which is under tight security and more so now. I am sure phone calls were made to the manufacturing plants and security was tightened up even more going forward.

As for the guy (Gray), I feel kinda bad for him, i'm sure it was an honest mistake. Gray... Google and VMware are hiring

      900 / 5 = 180min each <-- LOL

OH YA, don't forget on those new data heavy android phones you have to have a data plan per phone!

My Acer Liquid could play back 720P, nothing special there...
Sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about.

The everything data family plan has 1500 min for 129.99, which again are ONLY FOR LAND LINES as there is free mobile to mobile calling on any network. You add 3 phones for 19.99 each and you have 189.99 divided by 5 makes $37 a phone...and yes that includes data plans for all of them. I don't know about you but 300 minutes to land lines is more than enough for anyone I know

I have no idea where you got your info from, but it is incorrect.

EDIT: You must be looking at the Talk for Family Plan, which is a different plan. In either case learn to read before you try to make a smartass retort
