  • "Barroom iPhone" Disassembled: Looks Legit
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxbHCR-W8zc]YouTube - Gizmodo: This Is Apple's Next iPhone[/ame]

    The plot thickens.

A supposed fourth-generation iPhone somehow made its way to Jason Chen of Gizmodo, with the story that it was found on the floor of a bar in either San Jose or Redwood City. Others claim it is an "open secret" that Chen bought the device from someone who stole it from Apple a week ago. However he came by it, once Chen had his hands on the device he did what any self-respecting modder would do: he took it apart. And what he found - components with Apple logos silkscreened on them, normal iTunes and System Profiler behavior (though with unique identifiers for any existing phone) - convinced him that this is the real deal.

As has long been rumored, the fourth-generation iPhone has a front-facing video chat camera. The rear-case camera lens is larger than the one on the iPhone 3GS, and there is a flash. The device uses a Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM, and apparently a glass or ceramic back. The display is apparently much improved. Chen said he couldn't figure out the resolution of the screen because he couldn't get past the "Connect to iTunes" icon: Apple had apparently remotely bricked the phone when they found out it was missing, but he says it was "impossible to discern individual pixels." The phone also has separate buttons for volume-up and volume-down that are metallic, as are the power and mute buttons. Chen also reports a secondary mic by the headphone jack that he believes is used for noise cancellation.

They found that the device had a fit and finish that convinced them it couldn't possibly be a fake. The kicker, though: John Gruber of Daring Fireball got word through one of his contacts at Apple that a prototype iPhone has gone missing... "and they want it back."

This has gotten so blown up its not even funny. I dont even give a **** anymore about it. Everyone has their opinions and its turned it to a giant effing war over something that may or may not be real. I highly doubt its a fake just because of the case, and the way this thing is made. I dont think some Chinese fake would be this well made, but you believe what you want. I'm going to just wait till june and see what Steve Jobs says about this new iphone if we get one at all.

oh and @ berry_lthird: Poseidon79 beat me to it but you sound like an idiot so just shut up. You are definatly in the wrong place to be shooting things of about photoshop expertise when you have nothing to back up your claims. But I will wager with you that those photos have not been "shopped". Guess we should know in just under two and a half months.

If they can remotely turn it off, it shoulf have some kind of findmyi service. Can they not send the police over if they really want it back?

To AJV1989.. Dude next time just post the Hyper link! Many, if not all, people in this forum have already read all of that. While the info is useful for people who may not have seen it, there is no need to post what is already on another site.

Next iPhone will probably have 64 GB to match the iPod Touch 3rd Gen. I would be surprised if they went 128 GB to surpass the iPod Touch 3rd Gen but who knows.

Also 64 can be misinterpreted as 84 to some people depending on font type.

      It's not 80 or 84GB it's XXGB

Microsim not micro sd.... micro sd is a type of memory card and micro sim is a small sim card

Can someone explain to me this?

IF this is the real deal, and IF this is THE actual next iPhone and someone FOUND this phone at a bar, WHY THE **** ARE THEY NOT RETURNING IT TO IT'S RIGHTFUL OWNER???? This is WRONG. On a huge scale. I hope that if this turns out to be the real deal, and Gizmodo and the person who found it still keep it, that Apple sues the holy hell out of them. This is plain wrong, you don't keep things like this if you find them. Is there no integrity left in the world?? Or it's fake. I'm going with fake or deliberately given to them to throw them off. Apple has invested way too much money to let something like this go and tip their hand.

No way are they stupid enough to keep something like this AND show it off to the world. This HAS to be fake, or a deliberately sneaky leak to drum up hype.

I'm sure this is the real deal, Steve Jobs just tweeted, "ceoSteveJobs:Fired 30 people today and I still don't feel better." Surely firing took place caz of the missing prototype 4th gen iPhone! Lets just hope its a prototype n not the final product!

I'm still taking the evo 4g over the new iphone, whether this is it or not. I think this summer is going to be the time for me to make the iphone to android switch for these reasons:

      1) Evo 4g's specs are redonkulous. 1ghz snapdragon, 8mp rear camera and 1.3 mp front camera, 512 mb ram, hd playback and 720p hd recording, hdmi out, wimax support (even though it's not in my city yet)

      2) Sprint's Everything Data Plan gives more more than AT&T for way less. Unlimited Data, unlimited txt msgs, unlimited mobile to mobile calling on any network, and more landline minutes than I would possibly use. With 2 ppl on a family plan that's $65/person, at 3 ppl on plan it's $50/person, with 5 ppl on a plan that's $37/person

      3) Android 2.1 with sense is looking mighty sexy. Why work so hard to open up iphone OS when the android os is increasingly becoming an open source version of what iphone modders strive to make a closed iphone os become?

In summary I'm tired of being under AT&T's (and apples to a lesser extent) thumb and I think this summer is going to be the time when android really gives the iphone a run for its money.

      1-2 included. Lines 3-5 are $19.99/mo./line.
$70 for 900min, plus using all five lines... +$60. Plus taxes... +$10
      $140 / 5 = $28
      900 / 5 = 180min each <-- LOL

OH YA, don't forget on those new data heavy android phones you have to have a data plan per phone!

My Acer Liquid could play back 720P, nothing special there...

I thought of that too! But you'd be very very stupid to keep this phone, much less show it off, if it was the real thing. The legal ramifications are waaaaay too big!

I agree to not return something to the rightful owner is wrong and that is where I stand on that issue. Now the "it is Fake issue." People in this forum cannot prove this is real or this is fake. The only one who knows the truth are Apple and the person holding it in their hand right now. People are going to believe what they want to believe. It is called Hope. I hope it is real because I know what to look forward too and it is good to see Apple (3 iPhones later)have given their consumers what they have wanted hardware wise. If it is fake, boy will I be red in the face later. until then "to each his own!"

I recently got my 3Gs and to be honest, I am quite happy with it... No doubt I'll get the next iPhone 4G at some point but it definitely won't be in June or this year for that matter. Why?

      Because:

      - It is a completely new device and the full on jailbreak is likely to take long.

      - It's cost at launch and a possible 18 month contract with o2 (UK).

I respect whatever reason u have to believe that the account is fake but sadly u r wrong! Its commonly known to all apple people that its his account. Perhaps u r late in this but google a bit n u'll know its his genuine account

hmm, i beg to differ..you see if apple decided to make such a move not only would they be compromising the secrecy of the phone, but they would look more stupid based on the sole fact that one of their own employee lost it(if that is what happened)

      >excuse my grammar<
