  • Possible 4th Gen iPhone Specs Getting Attention

If we stop for a moment to check our calendars, it's pretty clear that summer isn't too far away. And with the likelihood of the 4th generation iPhone being introduced in June or July, the iPad may keep us so heavily distracted for a few months that the new iPhone will be here before we know it.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is now putting the finishing touches on the new iPhone. And if John Gruber's predictions prove accurate, Steve Jobs won't be ridiculed for over-exaggerating that the next iPhone will be simply "amazing." Gruber, in fact, is helping paint a nice little picture of the potential specs of this summer's iPhone update. Gruber says the device will enable third-party multitasking, have an A4-class SoC, a 960 x 640 display, and a front-facing camera (for video calls, of course).

Are these guesses for now? Yes. Has Gruber been accurate in previous predictions? Yes, again. And, overall, are these potential 4th gen iPhone specs pretty safe bets? Right again. But perhaps the most important and compelling evidence to suggest that the next iPhone will feature all of the above attributes and then some, is that for the many months leading up to this summer's new iPhone launch, the speculated specs haven't changed very much. And, for this reason, it's probably a safer bet than many of us can imagine that the 4th gen iPhone will all but certainly look and perform exactly as we presently expect it to.

While there's still no telling what to make of the back and forth hints about a potential Verizon iPhone, it's practically a done deal, says Gruber, that the next iPhone is going to be a multitasking juggernaut that will have millions of friends video chatting on the go and enjoying HD video content like nothing they've ever experienced.

Okay, maybe summer isn't close enough after all

Can't wait. And I hope they will make the screen a little wider. I'm sure they can make it a 16:9 while keeping the size.

WTF, front facing camera? Sounds like the most inconvenient camera setup of all time. How you supposed to take videos/pics of anything other than yourself?? It better have two cameras you can switch between. Fack "video conferencing," who does that anyway? They need to remember this is an entertainment device more than a work device. People who want a serious work device buy blackberries :P

Well you're stupid because we all know new iPhone/iPods come out every year. So you either hold off until the new iPhone or buy the phone when it comes out and enjoy a year of it.

Rofl back chrome is the worst idea ever. Scratches way too easily. I'd rather have aluminum like the first iPhone but they would have to find a way to not block the antenna. I'm thinking making the apple logo plastic covered with chrome and a bigger and put the antenna near it.

      So something like that maybe

If it doesn't come with a kickstand the video chatting will become useless, because propping up ANYTHING to record you is a pain. >.<
Lol built in kickstand? NEVER. Just makes the thing feel cheap.

I'm wondering what they'll call it. AT&T doesn't have a 4G network so they can't call it the iPhone 4G. I'm still pissed about the term "iPhone 2G" as there's NO SUCH THING. There's a first generation iPhone... or just "iPhone". They should have called it the iPhone E (for EDGE).... then the iPhone 3G.. now the iPhone 3GS.

Well it will be the 4th generation phone. So it being called an iPhone 4G makes sense. Just like Apple did with the iPods.

Lmao at so many people on here getting all excited over guesses and nothing more then guesses.Quite the gullible group.Let's flash back to the release of the 3gs..rumors were the same, front camera, better screen etc etc and look what happened. These are guesses and nothing more.

I heard it would get the name iPhone HD, it's all over the news over here.
It will have 2 cameras, one at front, and one at back (5mp) so not just a front camera.
It will get iPhone os 4.0, which supports multitasking, so probably multitasking will be possible for all iPhones.

that's what is told us over here.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. But the 3G/4G thing could be confusing so I can see why they may change it. "iPhone Pro" anyone? :P

its not the size it is that the pixels will be smaller reasulting in better quality and not a bigger size like maybe hd

maybe they would call it the iphone 3gss for super speed

That makes some sense, yet these aren't iPods or iPod touch's. The original iPhone was just the "iPhone," yet consumers coined it the "iPhone 2g" for its edge-only capability.

Both the "iPhone 3g" and "iPhone 3gs" (note these were the 2nd and 3rd generation) work on the 3g network and weren't named by their respective generation numbers.

Taking all into consideration, it's likely they won't name the new model the "iPhone 4g" to avoid false advertisement claims.

Well said again. iPhone "2G", "3G" and "3GS" refer to the network it runs on.. not the particular generation of product. I agree with the above "iPhone HD" or "iPhone Pro" would be great names.
