  • Opera Mini In the Hands of App Store Approval Process

It appears that Opera have finally finished up their final touches on their long-awaited Internet browser for iPhone, as they have revealed that it has finally been submitted to the App Store. They even have posted a counter displaying EXACTLY how much time has passed since it was submitted for approval (Apple had better take heed of this unless they want some bad publicity for the App Store). Opera claims their browser to be up to six times faster than the built-in Safari.

There have been other "alternative" browsers released on the iPhone; however, they are all based on "webkit," the web-rendering engine used by Safari. They aren't in themselves new browsers; the are only front-ends to Safari's solution to display the web. Of course, they may also get denied for "duplicating functionality," as many apps already have, including GV Mobile, which has since ended up on Cydia.

we're talking about the 2 figer scroll? yeah it's a bit jumpy, but then i did my own side by side testing, and what is actually happening is that it accelerates your scrolling. a full 2 finger swipe moved me to the bottom of the MII home page, while on safari, it only brought me 3 articles down

they'll only do that if the test it out and it is actually better than mobile safari

dude turn opera turbo on, not on auto, full on.

whenever there's one of those annoying flashing or moving ads, it completely blocks it! it just looks like a grey circle, and if you want to load it, you just click it!

not only does it speed up your Internet browsing, but it blocks all the junk ads sites put up

This looks absolutely amazing, it'll be even better if someone int he jailbreak community makes a tweak that makes all links that are clicked on in texts and emails open in opera instead of safari

if they were smart, apple would let it through because if they reject it then its definitely going to cydia, so instead of giving people another reason to jailbreak, they should let it go to the appstore

forget the iPhone. the better platform for this app would be the iPad. on the iPad you could actually 'browse' the web. who here is really 'browsing' the web on their iPhone or iTouch?

Plenty of people. I browse all the time on the bus to school, on the way home, and other times.

Awesome. When I had a BB, Opera Mini was all I used. Frankly I don't care if it gets approved as I don't give a toss about Apple's rediculous approval process. I'll take it via Cydia or in ipa format any day.

Yeah, idroid is gone. Well, you could always get it through other means.......

I doubt Apple will approve this, they'll probably steal the idea and implement it in the next version of mobile Safari and yeh Safari does suck especially the navigation bars and the tabbed browsing. The take up to much space and accessing tabs has a delay.

Will a news thread be started if this gets approved by apple or cydia?
