  • Apple Releases iOS 4.3.1, as Jailbreakers Are Urged to Proceed with Caution

Moments ago, Apple released iOS 4.3.1, a relatively minuscule security and maintenance update widely anticipated to drop soon anyway for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Immediately following the announcement, caution was urged by the jailbreak community with regard to the update. Minutes ago, MuscleNerd tweeted: "Unlockers please stay away from today's iOS 4.3.1! Just to be extra safe, so should future iPad2 jailbreakers (for now)." He subsequently added: "It's very unlikely they fixed the bug in comex's unreleased iPad2 jailbreak, but you never know. Better to wait for confirmation first."

For the time being, the update is not for the CDMA iPhone 4, only GSM iPhone 4. The CDMA iPhone 4 remains married to iOS 4.2.6. According to Apple, here's what iOS 4.3.1 gets you:
    • Fixes an occasional graphics glitch on iPod touch (4th generation)
    • Resolves bugs related to activating and connecting to some cellular networks
    • Fixes image flicker when using Apple Digital AV Adapter with some TVs
    • Resolves an issue authenticating with some enterprise web services
In addition to the GSM iPhone 4, the iOS 4.3.1 update supports iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPad 2, and iPod touch (3rd & 4th gen). Direct Firmware Downloads

Despite what some iPhone users were expecting, Apple did not use this update to address the reported battery life issues that developed following the previous update to 4.3.

My ipod is on 4.2.1 and i have no problems with it what so ever. So yeah, the update is pointless for me.

      Thanks Comex!
Same here...I'm ready for the JB.

This comes as a surprise since I read this morning (as I was waiting in line for my ipad 2) that 4.3.1 wasn't being released for another few weeks. Hopefully this means a jailbreak comes along earlier than I expected . This is my fist iPad and I think I'm in love and I'm already drooling for a jailbreak.

@notcom 's excellent tiny umbrella [http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/] does all that work for ya!
If you have an iPad 2 even with SHSH saved its best if you DO NOT UPGRADE

Off topic. If iTunes crashes my computer just one more time I am personally going to kick steve jobs senile *** myself. His claim of flash causing his os to crash is really rich coming from apple.

I truly hate this ******* company.

This upgrade looks good. I'm on iPod Touch 4G and yes there is an occasional graphic glitch which is really annoying. Also this upgrade should fix the battery problems because I hate that it doesn't last as long as one would want it to. (All of the statements above are for those who are on 4.3, if your on 4.2.1 then just keep the jailbreak and wait for someone to post a jailbreak for 4.3.1)

I hope this improves battery life on iPod touch 4G; the terrible battery life is killing me (partially due to multitasking)

Why a 666MB download for the so called "minor" update? It is out of my belief.

Even though I don't like the majority of the custom boot logos, the few I do like are cool. It gives my phone a bit more personality.
