  • [3GS] iBoot-359.3.2 - No 24kpwn! Apple Actively Working Against Jailbreaks
    chainsaws problem

Edit Poseidon: Well guys... Apple finally patched the exploit in the bootrom that has been allowing redsn0w and pwnage tool to work. There are now new 3GS iPhone in the wild that have a new version of iBoot that will not be jailbreakable until a new exploit is found! Better hurry up and buy em while you can... may not last long.

    "@MuscleNerd @geohot @iphone_dev There is a new iphone 3GS Bootrom iBoot- (24kpwn no workie)" - Mathieu Hervais
    "yay! new 3gs bootrom apparently kills 24kpwn." - cpich3g
"oh oh, from what @cpich3g + @Mathieulh have found so far, a normal untethered JB may be in jeopardy in brand new 3GS units" - MuscleNerd
hurry purchase old 3GS asap before new1 hits the shelves.

What are the first 5 digits of your serial number?

Funny, that's exactly the same question I asked in answer to his other post asking the same thing.

Why do people make duplicate posts?

I don't think that sounds right? Are you reading your ICCID number (Sim #)? Shouldn't the serial number start like this (5K945) which is mine, does this mean what I feared lol... I received this one refurbed from Apple a few days ago...

His numbers sound fine. your 5k means it's a refurb the 9 is the year and the next 2 digits are the week number - but with a refurb it's the date it was refurbed so you can't tell what BL or iBoot you have.

ibby. I just got a refurb 5K946 yesterday, and with confucious' suggestion, I tried to JB it anyway. His thoughts were, if I JB it and then reboot and it requires the tethered JB again, then I can restore again back to normal, but if not, then great! Or you can go with the tethered JB option if you don't let the phone die.

I am extremely happy to report though, that my JB worked flawlessly and I do NOT need to tether JB it on restarts, so give it a try and let us know how it works out for you!

All this cat and mouse crap is making freakin sick. I do hope the Dev team stays the course. What Apple ought to do is just allow creativity and allow app so we can theme and control the device. Package the jailbreak tools and sell them. There is a market, right?

They are ALL jailbreakable! It's just a matter if it's a tethered or untethered jailbreak.

How does one perform an untethered jailbreak?

I believe he is just referring to after the jailbreak. With new boot, u need to re-tether and run blackra1n again just to boot up if ur batt dies or phone requires a reboot

Hi guys I am new to the iphone world and jailbreaking. I am a software engineer so I am pretty confortable with theses kind of stuffs. However, despite people saying 359.3.2 is not jailbreakable, I did run blackrain for the heck of it and it installed blackrain, I ran blackrain and installed Cydia and Rock...

What Am i missing? seems like a sucessful jailbreak no?

      Iphone version (3.1.2(7D11))

      It's a successful JB.
You'll have to re JB every time you reboot.
Who has ever said 359.3.2 is not jailbreakable?

Read through this thread and am convinced I own a tethered jailbreak iPhone 3GS.

First 5 of my serial are 80946, can someone tell me?

Also can someone tell me how to tell what version of iboot I am running... I have a Windows Vista box and a Windows XP Pro laptop... I see you mac guys can do it but is there a way for us PC guys to do it?

      ^^^^^

More than likely, yes. If your on a MAC, there are ways to check your version of bootloader, or iBoot, or whatever it's called, but the other way you can test, is do a sync, jailbreak, uplug from computer and reboot and see what happens. If you have to plug it back in and run the JB to get it to boot up, then you are out of luck for now and would have to restore from you last sync, if not, good for you!

I just returned mine and got a refurb with 5K946, but I was able to JB. I'm not bragging, I just got lucky!

80946 is week 46 and a tethered JB.
5K946 is a refurb and there is no way of telling from the serial number when it was originally made bso may or may not have tethered - - in this case you were lucky.
