  • Easily Enable Tethering on 3.0 via iPhone Safari!
So if you haven't already discovered tethering is working on iPhone firmware 3.0 (even for AT&T). You can enable AT&T tethering via a simple .ipcc (download AT&T.ipcc) update via iTunes OR you can make it happen in an even easier manner via Safari on your iPhone!

BenM.at is hosting TONS of iPhone tethering configuration files for many many networks across various countries.

Simply browse to help.BenM.at/help.php via Safari on your iPhone

    Select Mobileconfigs

    Select Country

    Select Provider

    Select install

    Select Install Now

    Select Done

That's it, Now just browse to Settings->General->Network->Internet Tethering->On and you have tethering.

Note: at the time of this writing tethering is still working for AT&T even though they said it would not work. Here's hoping that AT&T doesn't prevent this overnight!

thx to iClarified for pointing out BenM.at

It creates a 'profile' in your General > Network > Profile > USA Profile(or something like that)

I got paranoid. So i went to General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

It did its thing, and when it came back. I still had the Tether Off/On switch, but no Profile.

Essentially enabling tethering without adding a APN.
Would you like to explain to PC users how to get it working?

It says on your profile, that you have a 2G iPhone. As mentioned MANY times now, it doesn't work on a 2G iPhone, only 3G.

As for will it charge you? refer to my earlier posts regarding how it all works. I can't be arsed typing it all out again, if you can't be arsed reading the thread.

      here is your guide.....

alter the phone so you can have the tether option.

turn on the tether option on the iphone.

plug your freaking iphone into the PC.

if you do not get a new network adapter, then you are SOL.

Do not get a new network adapter... Why am I not getting it?

Could it be because im on my work computer and it doesnt include itunes?

possibly does your phone show up as a camera in the "my computer" area?

Yes it does, I just tried it on an employees computer here at work who has itunes installed and it installed the modem and tethering worked great!

I really wonder, when they do roll our Tethering, will we still get it for free?

Those looking at pricing when At&t releases it, should look at plans already in place:

      PDA Personal with tethering
PDA Personal with tethering gives 5 GB of data for email, browsing the web, and thanks to tethering, wireless access for your PC.
      View Details
      Monthly Price $60.00

      Or

      BlackBerry® Personal with tethering
BlackBerry Personal with tethering gives you 5 GB of data for email, browsing the web, and thanks to tethering, wireless access for your PC.
      View Details
      Monthly Price $60.00

I currently use less thatn 500mbs per month with the iphones web. And about 1gb a day on my desktop. An extra $30 sounds steep, but its what everyone else pays.

Maybe not the thread for this but is anyone having issues getting there iphone to connect to their mac via bluetooth? I am able to get it to pair but I can't get it to connect.

      It definately WON'T be free..

They wouldn't invest so much effort in setting up a new APN etc, if they weren't planning on setting up a new charging structure for it.

I'm not a MAC user, but I've read on the forums that there is a problem with newer macs and the built-in bluetooth. Older macs work though, and newer ones with an external BT adapter. I suspect its to do with the drivers on the new mac and the bluetooth stack.

      Pc users:
this I how easy it is.....
Enable tethering, plug into USB port, wait for it to finish installing the already built in driver. Done.
Took me about 35 seconds and I got 1.25 down and .33 up
