  • Easily Enable Tethering on 3.0 via iPhone Safari!
So if you haven't already discovered tethering is working on iPhone firmware 3.0 (even for AT&T). You can enable AT&T tethering via a simple .ipcc (download AT&T.ipcc) update via iTunes OR you can make it happen in an even easier manner via Safari on your iPhone!

BenM.at is hosting TONS of iPhone tethering configuration files for many many networks across various countries.

Simply browse to help.BenM.at/help.php via Safari on your iPhone

    Select Mobileconfigs

    Select Country

    Select Provider

    Select install

    Select Install Now

    Select Done

That's it, Now just browse to Settings->General->Network->Internet Tethering->On and you have tethering.

Note: at the time of this writing tethering is still working for AT&T even though they said it would not work. Here's hoping that AT&T doesn't prevent this overnight!

thx to iClarified for pointing out BenM.at

on my phone? not sure. did not check before and after.
i have looked at my 02 on the web and nothing is registering there, but it takes a few hours to update anyway. i'm not going to spend hours tethering just in case i get stung by them.

Don't know if it's relevant here, but I was having problems with Visual Voicemail after applying one of these carrier profiles. Turned out, the profile wacked my visual voicemail APN, which is actually different than the Cellular Data or MMS APN. For AT&T, change that APN to acds.voicemail with a blank username and password, and you'll restore your visual voicemail.

      Hope this helps someone.

I don't even want to risk it because I am not the bill payer. 02 could also make you pay more money because its not legit.

Thanks for helping me out on this. Yes I did. I also tried pressing connect on my phone and neither work. I get an error message when trying to connect through the drop down menu. Don't remember what it says off the top of my head. Will try it again.

Not true. I was able to get it to work on an XP machine via bluetooth that doesn't have itunes on it.

Works very well, sweet. But how long until AT&T finds out! It's super easy too.

as of right now (11:36pm, Thursday June 18,2009 - day AFTER 3.0 released) it says "To enable tethering on this account, contact AT&T". I hit OK, then switched it to on, and it works.

I am shocked that this works. (I am very happy that it does. Thank you!) AT&T can bite me for charging me an extra $30 for this. I already pay an extra $20 for unlimited data just because I have an IPhone.

U r lucky to ONLY pay $20/mo unlimited data for iPhone. We pay $30/mo. Glad my post helped. I'll have to see if I rack up any additional chgs.

I pay $30 too. I was just saying +$20 because it is $10 for unlimited data for any other phones (maybe not BB (I don't know for sure))

According to this UK article benm.at actually hacks ATT's tethering to give it to you for free. Please read the article. I guess all you have to do to get tethering for free is unlock it. Which is what we did!
