  • Daylight Savings Time Wreaks Havoc on iPhones... Again

Daylight Savings Time has struck again. On Sunday, many iPhone users started complaining about their iDevice botching the time change. Rather than pushing the iPhone clock one-hour forward, a lot of iPhones went the other direction - that is, setting clocks back an hour instead. By Sunday morning there was a large but unknown number of iPhone users two hours behind schedule according to mobile device.

Although this isn't the first time that a seasonal time change has befuddled the iPhone (on New Year's day there were alarm-related issues, just as there were at the end of daylight savings time last November), today was the first time the issue actually trended with some gusto on Twitter. On Sunday morning it seemed everyone was full of complaints about the unexplained two-hour mix-up.

Of course, many iPhone owners have been through this situation before. And they're well aware of the easy fix. If your iPhone's clock was somehow mistakenly set back, simply shut down the device and then restart it. Switching the iPhone to “airplane mode” and then back will also do the trick.

No problems on my JB Viphone 4 (4.2.6 FW). I'm in AZ so we don't change; nothing on my phone changed, so I'm assuming it's working right. Lmao!

Who did this actually happen to? Cause everyone I know with an iOS device had no problems. It's probably a bunch of andriod users thinking they're funny

I had no problems. But, the name is Daylight Saving Time, not "Savings".

I can confirm a glitch. My phone changed normally, checked when I woke up. Verified through the local time and temp, woke up at 5:30am this morning and the sky was brightening up. Once I seen traffic was pretty congested I knew something was wrong. Got to work and sure enough I was one hour late.

iOS 4.2.1 GP JB, I find it odd that it updated but for some reason between 10:30pm last night and 5:30am this morning it reverted back an hour. Luckily there is enough news stories out there that backed up my story.

Had to uncheck auto update and manually adjust it. This is the first time in my 36+ years that I have been late/early due to DST.

Ditto from me on that! Something else that I've learned, and that is not to rely on one device either, I set multiple alarms, and if I'm at a hotel I ask for a Wake Up Call.

Edit-Use at least one alarm clock that works on battery or is the wind up kind. I'm 39 myself

No no no, it will be a new feature in the iPhone 5. A phone that changes the time properly.

And all the fanboys will Ohhh and Ahhh over it and talk about how Apple does clocks (and alarms) better than anyone else!

IP4 running 4.1. Clock is fine, but recurring alarms are one hour early. Airplane mode and restarting phone didn't do anything.

I don't get the use of "daylight savings time " at all. Change body clocks. The body just stresses out changing waking time every 6 months. What's the use of it in current time!! Aren't there countries who just stopped changing time.

I almost made the same mistake. Woke up on my own, looked at my iPhone (4.2.1 JB) and it said 6:45am.. Decided to look at my wifes alarm clock and sure enough hers was 7:45. My phone changed its time properly the morning before, and the next day is when it screws up. Luckly I wasnt late for work, but its a shame that a phone of such a high price cant even tell time properly. This is the last time I rely on my phone.
