  • MyWi OnDemand : Hotspots When You Need Them
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R0kzsE6O2I]YouTube - MyWi OnDemand - WiFi Hotspots are so 2010[/ame]

The creators of MyWi have just released a brand new feature for MyWi called MiWi OnDemand. What's this you say? It's an incredibly smarter way to create HotSpots that won't suck your battery dry and won't be active unless it's needed. MyWi On Demand is essential for anyone already using MyWi.

Having to turn on and off a hotspot gets old quickly when you're doing it all the time, as when you share your iPhone's 3G connection with a WiFi-Only iPad. Instead, MyWi OnDemand connects when you need it, and disconnects when you don't. When you leave your WiFi connection at home and you're using the iPad, the iPad will connect automatically. When you turn your iPad screen off, or go back where you have WiFi, MyWi OnDemand will disconnect. After a simple pairing, everything works automatically!
You will be required to have a jailbroken iDevice, and a copy of MyWi 4.0. The addon comes with a 3 day trial period and if you'd like to purchase it, it runs for $4.99.

MyWi On Demand is compatible with 3G/3GS/4 iPhones/iPod Touches (3.1.2+) and iPad (3.2+). You must have purchased of MyWi 4.0 for this add-on.

Jailbreak your iDevice on iOS 4.2.1 with greenpois0n.

amg212: Yes - MyWi is required on both sides to manage the connections (obviously, our goal was to have only one side, but to get this to work seamlessly, we had to give in to that requirement).

So many complaints about price. I don't get it. MyWi charges $25.00 for the app. If you have an unlimited data plan that's all you pay!! AT&T charges $20.00 a month for 2gb of tethering (wired only). I think $25 is cheap

The argument going on in this thread so ridiculous on two levels.

      1) The developer offers a !@##$ trial! Whether or not it was unclear all someone has to do is download and try. Unlike 99% of cydia apps, they have always offered a try before you buy. Not sure why so much vitriol but completely off base

      2) The app world for mobile has become race to the bottom so when apps are priced fairly but above $2, people take it personally. Its not even open for debate that Mywi, assuming it works which for me it does, is a much cheaper option than ATT/Verizon tethering. In addition to the monthly costs, the cap is the more relevant metric since most people who tether by default are using a lot more data and therefore a lack of a cap is extremely valuable. That said, it still may not be worth it to you when compared to other options which is fine.

EDIT: All that said btw, i have tried 4.3 and tetherme ($2) which enables hotspots natively. Assuming that carriers cant block this feature and it continues to work, it will be a much cheaper alternative and that is a good thing. Forces innovation since it will be a much cheaper option for that specific function.

I can't get it to work. Purchased OnDemand upgrade and have it on my iPhone and iPad.

I also have TetherMe on my iPad. It's off. Are they mutually exclusive? Do I have to remove TetherMe from my iPad.

I put something on my iPhone after 4.2.1 to allow my unlimited data plan to allow me to turn on tethering. iTether maybe? Do I need to remove that?

I bought it just to play with. Hell, I'll pay $5 to watch two dogs... Never mind.

People whine over the silliest ****. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Nobody's making you. Damn. I wish I had $5 problems again!

      Confused.

      More 411:

The iPad "sees" the iPhone4 by its assigned name. It just won't "pair". The iPhone just sits there saying "Discovering" but the iPad never connects. Weird. It has to have something to do with one of these other packages.

I'm loving this app. Let's see. Pay $100 more for a 3G iPad, plus a monthly subscription, or a fully automated setup where my involvement is waiting for the Bluetooth chimes which has had a total cost of $25. Hmm. It's a no brainer. Thanks psuskeels for a product worth buying.

      Got it working.

Reversed roles which made no sense. Paired them (first time it ever asked me). Reversed roles back and it immediately asked me to approve the pairing. I did and it now works fine.

Really weird. Hey. It works! LOL

Can't install, I keep getting Size Mismatch in Cydia as soon as it starts downloading, then I'm forced to respring

I tried adding intelliborn.com/beta4 but I don't know how to download from that source specifically, as any instance of mywi on demand/4.0 i try to install still gives me a mismatch error

Goto Cydia/Sections/Repositories and remove ModMyi temporarily and try that. You can put it back in after you're finished. Worked for me. It sees it as the primary source, apparently, and if it burps, the install will fail. With it removed, it looks to Intelliborn and finds what it needs.

Yes. Data (or internet) comes from someplace, yea? For an iPhone, it's either WiFi, 3G/EDGE/GPRS or Bluetooth. When using MyWi you allow device(s)(computer, iPad, etc) to connect to your iPhone via WiFi/USB/Bluetooth and the iPhone routes that data to the internet via 3G/EDGE/GPRS. It most definitely uses your data plan.

I use mywi for my Xbox360 but I notice it tells ne my NAT is even moderate or strict which causes me not to be able to fully play online.meaning my connection is very slow. Is there a reason for that. & does pdanet or therther me work better and give a faster connection. If you have full 3G or wifi. Wireless and hard wire into Labtop to Xbox. I did a speed test and the download speed is 0.20mb/s and the upload speed is 0.08mb/s. Is this bad. And I have a full 3G signal

@psukeels. When I try to connect my xbox360 wireless my wifi signal is full but I'm being partially blocked on Xbox live is this normal or is this a malfunction on the app. Xbox tells me my connection is moderate or strict. Why??

After much thought and rethinking my position I have decided this app is one of my most used and I would be cut off without it while at work. I have since paid the $5 for the "On Demand" upgrade .

I installed mywi ondemand and I must say it's really a welcome feature. I'm also happy to contribute 5 bucks for all that. But I experienced weird behavior a couple of times when streaming video, not sure if it's related but other than that I never had any major problem. What happens is that my iPhone (ondemand hotspot) just reboots automatically when I stream video on my iPad (ondemand client) let's say more than 5 minutes - very approximately. After reboot I need to reconnect manually as explained below. Anyone having heard of this issue?

Also, when this happens, or whenever a connexion can not be made because one of the bluetooths are unavailable, upon reactivation of the Bluetooth, even if everyone is discoverable, I need to "resync" the devices and manually turn on and off the Bluetooth power inside the mywi ondemand connexion screen in order to get a handshake. I'm not used with Bluetooth technology, maybe this is normal?

I too am having a very intermittent problem. In the last case of when it happened, I can document what happened, but on the rare occasion it happens, it seems pretty random.
I turned on my iPad and at first, it was not able to connect to a wireless network. At this point, on demand tethered the two. I went into settings and clicked the wireless network. While this does show a wifi connection, you still have to log into the network on a safari page. Using speedtest.net app, it was clear I was on the wifi connection, but on demand remained turned on on both of the devices. I was unable to fix it with a respiring, and it required a reboot of both devices to make them stop showing that they were tethered. Also, I had the up/down displayed on the phone and it was reporting 0/0. I am using a 3gs and a 16 gig wifi iPad, both on 4.2.1, both jailbroken with greenpoison.

I think i have the same problem as leopod descibed. After first pairing ipad and iphone everything is fine. But after deaktivating bluetooth on the iphone a reconect fails. The two device seems not to see each other. In some case after deactivating and activating BT from MyWi connections are possible again.

I am having the handshaking issue. It connects, then at times it disconnects and the icon on top goes away. I have to open mywi on the iPad and connect back to the hotspot. This happens quite often. Also, e iPhone will reboot at random times. Any ideas?
