  • MyWi OnDemand : Hotspots When You Need Them
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R0kzsE6O2I]YouTube - MyWi OnDemand - WiFi Hotspots are so 2010[/ame]

The creators of MyWi have just released a brand new feature for MyWi called MiWi OnDemand. What's this you say? It's an incredibly smarter way to create HotSpots that won't suck your battery dry and won't be active unless it's needed. MyWi On Demand is essential for anyone already using MyWi.

Having to turn on and off a hotspot gets old quickly when you're doing it all the time, as when you share your iPhone's 3G connection with a WiFi-Only iPad. Instead, MyWi OnDemand connects when you need it, and disconnects when you don't. When you leave your WiFi connection at home and you're using the iPad, the iPad will connect automatically. When you turn your iPad screen off, or go back where you have WiFi, MyWi OnDemand will disconnect. After a simple pairing, everything works automatically!
You will be required to have a jailbroken iDevice, and a copy of MyWi 4.0. The addon comes with a 3 day trial period and if you'd like to purchase it, it runs for $4.99.

MyWi On Demand is compatible with 3G/3GS/4 iPhones/iPod Touches (3.1.2+) and iPad (3.2+). You must have purchased of MyWi 4.0 for this add-on.

Jailbreak your iDevice on iOS 4.2.1 with greenpois0n.

LMAO, of course they are going to charge for this. This a great app I will say that but every time they make a little update they want to charge more. I paid the 9.99 when it first came out and I refuse to pay for any updates they want to charge. I don't think the DEV's really care either and their support really sucks. But like I said it's a great app and I will continue to use it.

lmao at all the people that cry "foul" when the dev wants to charge for features. its a feature, not a requirement. don't want it, don't pay. want it, pay. seems pretty simple.

Another vote for TetherMe. I bought this app a while ago but can no longer support them.

Seriously. I know the developers can't come in here and talk like this, so I'll do it for them........... What a bunch of cheap bastards you all are. Do the god damn math! If you want to see nickel and diming, look at your wireless bill, not this developer.

It's funny though, that these same cheap complainers will go out and waste $10 a day on lunch that they could easily prepare on their own, or pay full retail for something at bestbuy instead of buying the same exact thing online from amazon for less. Fools.

Oh and screw tetherme. MyWi is clearly superior to anybody that's used both.

I don't think this is accurate. In Cydia on my iPad, the license status suggests it must be purchased separately. On my iPhone 4 (which has MyWi), clicking on it in the store shows a message 'Package Officially Purchased', but on my iPad (same Cydia account) it only shows the 'Purchase Package' option, which seems to clearly suggest "the license (I've) already purchased will work" is incorrect.

I've used both and I own both and I still vote tetherme.

You probably have to click through so that your account can connect to the servers. Only then will it show that you've already purchased it.

There should be a couple layers of protection against one-click buying.

Me too, I can see the hotspot on my iPhone but can not access the Internet. Sent them a support question and nothing since 3 weeks ago. I will not give them more money when (A) it doesn't work and (B) can't contact their support team when there is a problem.

True ... a feature. BUT installed automatically with the MyWi upgrade. I don't want it ... AND ... I don't want it installed. However, no choice!!!

So what about when apple updated iOS from 3 to 4 were users who paid for it on 3 supposed to stick on 3.x then? No they were forced to pay for it again in order to use it on iOS 4. I gave them the first 10 and that's all they'll get from me. It is a nice app I will give it that and I still use it. The DEV and support for the app just plain sucks though.

If someone would make a dang a sb toggle it wouldn't be a pain to turn on and off.

Someone please make one. Hell if you know how tell me and I'll work on one

Mes: It's not activated until you download a trial (in-app) - and it made more sense to have it integrated.

Re: Support - we respond to hundreds of emails a day actually - so I'm not sure why you haven't gotten a response (check your email filters and add [email protected]).

      Enjoy!

I figured it out, it was my error!

Apparently I had attached Cydia to my Facebook account on my phone, and to my Google Account on my iPad. Once I got both of them authenticated both ways, MyWi showed up on the iPad!

Thanks for the help, guys. I will be buying the OnDemand upgrade, it sounds well worth it.

As an aside, any chance of getting some sort of OnDemand client for Windows and Mac OS? My wife has a Netbook and I plan on purchasing MyWi for her iPhone once the 4.2.1> untethered jailbreak comes out, and it would be sweet if she could get the benefit of no-hassle network connectivity from her Netbook too without the battery drain of WiFi tethering being on 24x7.

+1, collectively, to what everyone else has said so far:
      - Original app was plenty expensive compared to most other app costs
      - stability of app has been hit-n-miss for the money paid
      - Support has been hit-n-miss for the money paid
      - Ad-hoc only, marketing info misleading

Create an iPhone® WiFi HotSpot or iPad® WiFi HotSpot with a press of a finger! Wherever you are - you can connect your laptop or other mobile device to your iPhone®/iPad® easily to use your iPhone/iPad's data connection. MyWi™ 4.0 has been rebuilt from scratch to bring iPhone WiFi tethering support to iOS 4! Will work with all jailbroken iPhones (including 2G/3G/3GS/4) and iPad on 3.1.2 or later.

      Features:
Create iPad or iPhone WiFi Hotspot to connect mutiple laptops or mobile devices to share your iPhone/iPad's internet connection
40 bit and 104 bit WEP Security to prevent others from accessing your WiFi HotSpot
Ability to enable USB and Bluetooth Tethering on your iPhone or iPad
Broadcasts the Network Name (SSID) - no need to fuss with creating an adhoc network on your laptop
Shows up and down bandwith usage for iPhone WiFi Tethering or iPhone USB Tethering
Uses less battery and much faster then other tethering apps due to native routing
Only if you go looking at the FAQ on their website would you find where it says:
Can MyWi 4.0 create an Infrastructure network instead of Ad-Hoc?

Not at this time. We are working on this!
This should be very clear in their marketing info as it was this misleading kind of stuff that enticed me into buying it (before the Cydia acquisition). True enough, I've used it plenty for my laptop and now iPad, but that was not the primary reason I bought it: I wanted to use it with my Eye-Fi card in my camera but that doesn't support ad-hoc.

Even in the app it's not clear. Using the nice, fancy, new interface, only if you select 'other', at the bottom of the description it says, "With iOS Firmware 4.3, you'll be able to connect any WiFi capable device to your iDevice." WTF? Implying that after buying their app, I still won't be able to connect 'any WiFi capable device' until Apple comes out with 4.3?

Oh, and BTW, that means I'll have to wait for a 4.3 jailbreak just to use the app I spent $19.99, as it was implied I could use it?

And even after Apple comes out with 4.3 and there is a jailbreak, why would I even need your app if either Apple has it built-in or an iOS tweak (of which there are plenty already) to turn on 'disabled' features (disabled until you cough up some $ for AT&T/Verizon) is available for free or a buck or two?

Thanks, guys. The new UI is very pretty, but I think I'll pass on this lovely opportunity, save my $5 and go through all the extra work of turning on my iPhone, unlocking, starting MyWi and pressing the 'WiFi Hotspot' button on the app --- Oh! The pain!

Developers have a right to be paid. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

It all comes down to what the market will bare, it is pretty clear the market is not in lock step with the developer on this one at all. Considering that 4.3 is going to likely be released next week there is no reason to jump on this addon at this time until it can be determined whether we can simply get this for free after a jailbreak and config change. If this is the case then MyWi will be a deprecated app in most situations.

The concept idea is nice. Like someone said before, a SBSetting icon would have been great. I am under the 3 day trial, but it doesn't work all the time.

My iPad does show its connected to my iPhone, but no data is being transmitted. I did restart both devices and nothing.

It still has some bugs in it.
