  • Apple Releases MacBook Refresh in the Dead of Night

Well, the Vietnamese leak profiled here last week by Michael Essany was the real thing: Apple quietly updated their website overnight to show a refreshed low-end white MacBook. The specs of the new computer were exactly as previewed by the leak, with the entry-level notebook getting improved processor power, graphics and battery capacity at the same price: $999 US.

The new MacBook, which is available immediately, now has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.4 GHz. It also features the same GeForce 320M graphics processing unit. which NVIDIA made especially for Apple, that's found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The 320M (not to be confused with the GeForce GT 320M) uses system rather than dedicated memory, which cuts performance but imporoves power consumption. The new MacBook also gets the 63.5-watt-hour battery from the MacBook Pro, which should give 10 hours of cordless use. And the new MagSafe connector, which leads the power cord behind the computer rather than out to the side, has also made its way down from the refreshed MacBook Pro line.

Apple's vaunted (and feared) secrecy apparatus appears to be developing a few chinks in its armor these days: the Vietnamese Tinhte site which broke the news of the MacBook refresh also claimed to have a fourth-generation iPhone last week.

Not bad, especially for the same entry level price. I'd still rather pay the extra $200 and get a mbp instead.

So the Vietnamese site is legit. We know for a fact that's the new iPhone and the 3GS is a waste of money!

      Graphics card sucks.
Buy the MBP 13" instead of this.

Did this article just use the word "Chinks" and "vietnamese" in the same sentence?

      I am highly offended sir!

Just to clear things up via Wikipedia..

Chink may also mean a small crevice or opening, often referring to a weakness such as a "chink in the armor", but also in purely descriptive contexts such as a chink between two bricks

So now this is basically a plastic MacBook Pro 13" with a MacBook price tag? I don't see how that makes sense on Apple's side...

      EDIT:

LOL @MetallicaFan1991. You might want to actually READ or compare specs before you FAIL. Stop being a troll.

Lol, graphics card sucks either way. I thought all MBP's had dedicated graphics.
Still a MBP is better. Backlit keyboard, twice the ram and a SD card slot which is worth the extra 150 and imo it's better looking as well. 700 would have been a decent price.

Also Apple should switch to ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 series for the 15" MBP

Why is anyone happy about having integrated graphics in a 900 dollar machine?

I'm going to side with MetallicaFan - FAIL.

as much as i love mac, and you know i do; my 2006 17" core 2 dou is still kickin' it. i updated the hdd to 500GB recently. apple makes great products...and they last. so, though i want a new product, i cant justify the expenditure.

      thanks,

Would it be possible to put the battery from the newer one into the first unibody macbook? I would really enjoy a few more hours out of my battery.

I've seen the words "white" and "trash" in a single sentence before and it wasn't in an offensive way either ,but it does sound suspicious , I remember watching CNN and saw a politician trying to use the N word properly in a sentence and try to get a way with it while justifying his action by using the dictionary lmao ,the N word is a big no no in this country no matter what the case is
