  • New MacBook Pros FINALLY About to Drop?

Based on a leak from someone at MicroCenter, there's increasing confidence that the long-awaited refresh of the MacBook Pro line is imminent. Featuring new Apple part numbers, the inventory database screenshot shows MacBook Pros in "Good," "Better" and "Best" trim levels that - if the leak actually pans out as the real thing - would indicate a price drop for the new top-of-the-line 17" model.

After the online inventory system at MicroCenter was updated last night, staffers began leaking screen shots all over the internet. Showing new Apple part numbers that represent Good, Better and Best models, the new inventory items would appear to align with MicroCenter's existing three 15-inch and single 17-inch MacBook Pro offerings. The new entry-level MacBook Pro would cost $100 more at $1,799, but the top 15-inch model would be $2,199 and the one 17-inch model gets $200 cheaper at $2,299. The "Better" MacBook Pro would remain $1,999.

This refresh should finally bring Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors to the MacBook Pro line. The 32nm die-shrink of the current 45nm "Nehalem" architecture, the new "Arrandale" chips should have comparable clock speeds to the existing Core 2 Duos used in MacBook Pros but feature much improved performance. It's possible that the top of the line may include a hIgh-end NVIDIA 300M card, which supports Optimus graphics switching technology. Optimus would allow switching from the integrated Intel graphics to an external graphics card without requiring you to log out and log back in.

The rumor mill has the new models coming tomorrow. Apple is - of course - refusing comment on the matter.
