  • 'SwipeSwitcher' Makes it Easier for Non-3D Touch Devices to Launch the App Switcher

When it comes to launching the App Switcher, the technique has been the same for years press twice on the Home Button in rapid succession, but with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple has added a new gesture that takes advantage of the 3D Touch display, allowing you to press firmly on the side of the display to pop-open the App Switcher.

Unfortunately, with this feature being tied down to Apple's latest devices, those with an older iPhone may feel left out in the dark. That's why iOS developer CP Digital Darkroom has just launched a new free jailbreak tweak called SwipeSwitcher, which as the name suggests, allows you to swipe in from the left side of the screen to open the App Switcher while you're in an application.

Since the tweak would easily conflict with the swipe-in-from-the-left gesture that typically allows us to switch between recently-used applications, the developer cleverly separated the gesture into two parts. When swiping in from the top left side of the screen, you'll switch between recently-used applications, but when swiping in from the bottom left side of the screen, you'll open the App Switcher and be able to browse recently-used applications.

With this tweak, non-3D Touch devices effectively have a way of opening the App Switcher with a gesture from the side of the screen too. It's available completely free of cost from Cydia's BigBoss repository and it doesn't have any options to configure. Check it out!

I use activator to swipe up from the bottom to activate the switcher. My control center is part of notification center. (I have my toggles above the switcher anyway.) This gives me great single handed thumb control, which is also why I like my "smaller" iPhone 5s. It's also a reason not to upgrade to iOS 9--and that switcher sucks (imho).

Without all my jailbreaks, iOS is kind of poopy. (again imho)
