  • Report: Apple to Release iPhone 4S, Not iPhone 5 This September on Sprint, T-Mobile

A major story has broken that is quickly taking the tech blogosphere by storm. As reported within the hour by Forbes, analyst Peter Misek with the prominent firm Jeffries & Co. has come forward with claims that Apple's next generation iPhone will not be the iPhone 5 after all. Given the minor cosmetic changes we've all anticipated, the refreshed touchscreen handset will be released as the iPhone 4S.

"According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support," Misek stated in a research note to investors. Misek also says that his sources confirm the iPhone's expansion to Sprint and T-Mobile, a move that will effectively make Apple's celebrated handset available on all four major carriers in the US. Apple‘s anticipated iPhone upgrade, however, isn’t likely to include LTE functionality.

"Industry checks indicate Apple will likely announce Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile as new carriers." The "iPhone 4S" name hasn't been widely used to discuss the next-generation iPhone. But due to the now-obvious fact that next month's WWDC is all about iOS and not new hardware, it appears that the plan inside Apple is to release the slightly modified iPhone 4S this September.

As summer rapidly approaches, all signs, reports, and supposed leaks appear to corroborate what this late Friday report from Forbes has revealed. To read the full article, click here.

Don't do it man. You'd just be wasting time and money. I tried the HTC Inspire for about a month. That's all it took to realize iOS and the iPhone were superior. Not being a fanboy. Just stating fact.

      +1

I'll also be skipping this year's release.

I think we all saw this coming. With the recent release of the iPhone 4 on Verizon and the e en more recent release of the white iPhone 4, it comes as no surprise that there won't be any radical changes to the upcoming iPhone.

I wonder if they'll include 3G FaceTime function for this phone opposed to just the wifi function?

I would assume this means AWS 3G support for T-Mobile then

I hate sprint but I feel the iPhone move to them will probably save the carrier. There have nothing and with the iPhone that will at least keep some of their existing customers jumping ship.

It'd be nice if they incorporated the direct connect feature in the iPhone plus the function to stop people from blurting out!

iPhone 5th gen > iPhone 3GS. I am going to upgrade this year.

I myself will be upgrading. I hate having no 3G on my Tmobile iPhone 4.

If AT&T gives me the full discount like they do every year I'll upgrade. I might just switch to Verizon though. It would be nice to have service in the break room at work and not have to go outside during the winter to check RSS feeds and surf Facebook

so, what does this mean for iphone 4 users who are on tmobile currently? will our phones still have to be unlocked by the gevey sim or ultrasn0w? or will i be able to restore to stock firmware and pop in my tmobile sim card and go?

      Holy crap...

      Two things:

      1. Stop using the picture of the iPhone 4 with the metallic back because there are still idiots who think it's new.

      2. 4S? Sprint and T-Mobile? No thanks. I'll wait for the 5... if this is even true.
