  • [ FAIL ] Pre Order Now!

Update: AT&T Premier customers can log in and order.

iPhone 4 has been available via AT&T online and Apple's online retail store for hours now, but good luck actually getting an order in. Although we've tried for a solid 3 hours to get an order in, we're getting the same results hundreds of users are emailing, tweeting, and pm'ing us - zilch.

Apple's site looks to be staying up, with a couple 10-15 second "oops!" messages, but it seems AT&T is unable to keep up with the traffic. The AT&T site is down with maintenance messages more often than it's been up, and Apple's pre order process hangs right at the part where it starts communicating with AT&T - either when it checks pricing eligibility, or when it actually gets in to add/replace the line.

Smartly on Apple's part (which doesn't matter right now since AT&T can't handle the load), it looks like they've moved all iPhone activation to its own subdomain (buyiphone.apple.com) to better handle load management.

Keep trying I suppose - I'm gonna go have a mocha and an omelette, and do this thing later - no sense sitting in front of a screen pressing refresh for hours when they're obviously TKO'd at the moment.

Hey - anyone notice the iPhone 4 is only available in black for preorder/launch?

Ok. I gave up on Apple and went to AT&T and successfully ordered a 32GB. $299 Shipped. They don't guarantee delivery on 24th, just say they will try based on first come first served.

Seems AT&T is making things easier on their own site

att works fine for me but would like to do it through apple as it says delivery 24th.

      however apple gets stuck on

Please wait while we access your AT&T account information.

then fails. I shall wait a bit longer.

I just spent 2 hours waiting in line at an ATT store, after spending all morning trying to order online.

At this location, they are writing down your orders and will have someone manually enter them once the systems come back up. They said if you are lucky, it might be tonight sometime.

If you're thinking about going to a store, I wouldn't waste your time. They are crippled just like you would be at home. If I hadn't already invested the time in line today, I wouldn't have done the manual order but would have sat at home in my tighty whities.

so once again I guess they didn't expect 15 million AT&T users to logon and pre-order the new iPhone?

The biggest release in 3 years and they can shore up there servers to handle the traffic? Im not even blaming Apple, this is another epic failure by AT&T! There are projections of more than 1 million phones being pre-ordered in the first week alone, so they knew what was coming and yet they still dropped the ball.

Same issues and errors others are seeing on both sites. Made it through all morning between 5AM and 7AM CDT. When I did get on this morning I found that if you are not elgible for an upgrade and are a current ATT customer, it will not process the order.
