  • The Latest iPhone 4 Preorder Info From AT&T

By now, anyone resolved to purchase a new iPhone is well aware of the June 15th pre-order date and the June 24th market arrival of the 4th generation iPhone. But this weekend, we're learning more about AT&T's efforts to help customers "get iPhone 4 as quickly and efficiently as possible."

According to AT&T, anyone planning to pre-order their Apple smartphone can do so at any AT&T retail store nationwide or online beginning June 15th. This year, however, AT&T is trying something new - offering customers the option to ship pre-orders directly to their home or business for delivery as soon as launch day. Best of all, to help you keep tabs on the arrival of your new toy, AT&T will not only send out the obligatory email to confirm that the order has been placed, but also a second email to confirm that the iPhone 4 has actually shipped.

Credit cards won't be charged until the order is shipped. And don't forget that debit cards can't be used to pre-order.

As anyone who has purchased an iPhone from AT&T in the past knows, typically a customer sales rep will assist in activating the device. This time around, customers who order their device through AT&T and have it shipped directly to their home are advised to "follow the instructions included with the shipment." That's AT&T's way of kindly telling you to do it yourself. Of course, if you buy your iPhone 4 in an actual AT&T store, you'll still get assistance activating it before you go home. AT&T says that customers performing an exchange for iPhone 4 "must activate in an AT&T store."

Although there has been some confusion on the Internet regarding how many devices you're allowed to pre-order, AT&T is setting the record straight. AT&T stores will "sell one iPhone 4 per person for new customers, and one device per household for new orders placed online." Similarly, existing customers "may purchase one per eligible telephone number online" or through an AT&T store.

Yeah I don't understand this either because if you Preorder you should be getting yours first why should the ones who were responsible enough to preorder have to wait an extra day.

Yes you are going to keep your plan intact, if your 3GS is locked it only can be used with ATT but if you unlock it, you can use it with T-mobile or any other carrier that use SIM cards, look in here or google it on how to unblock your iPhone, it depends too on what firmware your iPhone is right now.

      Can someone please answer this!

Can we buy the $299 iPhone 4. Have it shipped to our homes and not activate it but unlock it and use it on other carriers.

I hope this dosnt break any rules.

      Cheers

Ohhh well how would we go about this? The same way everyone will be able to purchase on the 15 receive on 24 this month delivered to home? Or is this in store pickup from Apple Store pick up like how they had iPhone 3GS unlocked for sale at retail price? Possibly even AT&T? No real info about it everything is about contracts and that's where the whole info/news for straight purchase gets tossed out the window for people wanting it like me full price though.

You entered into a contract with at&t.... they are being nice in letting others upgrade to the new i before that 2 year contract is up. Why do you feel they should give YOU special treatment? For what ever reason it sounds like you don't fit the criteria for early upgrade. Sorry but that has nothing to do with at&t mistreating you. You sound like one of these pro ball players that wants a new contract 2 years into a 5 year contract. You agreed to the terms now you need to live by them. At&t was nice enough to let you early upgrade last year.

for those asking about early upgrades, dial *639# from your phone and you will receive a text message from att with your eligibility for upgrades... in my case, i qualify for an upgrade but, will have to pay the $18 upgrade fee... if you do NOT qualify at all, it will tell you when you will become eligible as well...

as far as when you will receive your new iPhone4, i spoke to an at&t rep on the phone 2 days ago about something else, and she brought up the new iphone, i asked her if we had the phone preordered online, would it arrive at my house on the release date or the day after? she pulled up a memo, and read it to me and said IF YOU PREORDER THE PHONE ONLINE FOR SHIPMENT TO YOUR HOUSE, IT WILL BEGIN ARRIVING ON THE 24TH AND THAT ORDERS WILL BE SHIPPED IN THE ORDER RECEIVED...

as far as debit/credit card debate, as has been mentioned a lot already, if it has a visa/mc logo on the card it CAN be used for credit purchases... so long as you have the funds in the account or overdraft protection enabled...

The fact sheet linked by the OP actually says this, which I believe clearly answers your question:

"Customers performing an exchange for iPhone 4 must have their device shipped to an AT&T store."

I've used my Paypal Debit/Credit card for preorder last year both in the store and online and its NOT a line of credit. Paypal takes it out of my bank account, so they WILL accept it as long as its a credit/Debit with the logo's on it.

On June 15th - Will I be able to pre-order an iPhone from Canada and have it shipped here?

If so, any idea when would be the expected date of arrival?

I think I'm gonna upgrade my 3G. My question is, how do I go about wiping it completely in order to sell it? If I run it through my itunes, won't it put all my info back on it? How do I "clear" everything important off it so it's like it's never been used before?

when you connect to itunes click restore and then choose restore to new and stop after that point.

500 and up is the cost and even without contract you are required to purchase a data/voice plan.

There is currently no way to get an iphone 4 from AT&T without ALSO getting a voice/data plan.

The only difference is you aren't locked into a contract so you would just cancel the plan immediately and since you paid the non subsidized price there will be no ETF penalty.
