  • The Latest iPhone 4 Preorder Info From AT&T

By now, anyone resolved to purchase a new iPhone is well aware of the June 15th pre-order date and the June 24th market arrival of the 4th generation iPhone. But this weekend, we're learning more about AT&T's efforts to help customers "get iPhone 4 as quickly and efficiently as possible."

According to AT&T, anyone planning to pre-order their Apple smartphone can do so at any AT&T retail store nationwide or online beginning June 15th. This year, however, AT&T is trying something new - offering customers the option to ship pre-orders directly to their home or business for delivery as soon as launch day. Best of all, to help you keep tabs on the arrival of your new toy, AT&T will not only send out the obligatory email to confirm that the order has been placed, but also a second email to confirm that the iPhone 4 has actually shipped.

Credit cards won't be charged until the order is shipped. And don't forget that debit cards can't be used to pre-order.

As anyone who has purchased an iPhone from AT&T in the past knows, typically a customer sales rep will assist in activating the device. This time around, customers who order their device through AT&T and have it shipped directly to their home are advised to "follow the instructions included with the shipment." That's AT&T's way of kindly telling you to do it yourself. Of course, if you buy your iPhone 4 in an actual AT&T store, you'll still get assistance activating it before you go home. AT&T says that customers performing an exchange for iPhone 4 "must activate in an AT&T store."

Although there has been some confusion on the Internet regarding how many devices you're allowed to pre-order, AT&T is setting the record straight. AT&T stores will "sell one iPhone 4 per person for new customers, and one device per household for new orders placed online." Similarly, existing customers "may purchase one per eligible telephone number online" or through an AT&T store.

Yes we can, want to bid on it? I think your boss is wrong, just because he is your boss means he cant be wrong, I used my debit card with visa logo before with ATT with no problem. You will see. Tell your boss he need to go to training again.
I understand that completely... and your right however the who debit card thing is something that they started this year. We have been instructed not to take the card if it says debit on it regaurdless of the logo. I dont agree with this policy, but I dont run the company. Our systems will take debit cards however the "filter" is the store reps not the actual system.

ok so am i reading this correctly...i went to apple site and did a fake order with a 3gs just to see if i can sign up for new service via apple instead of att, so i got to the billing info and it says this in the lower rules portion "Your monthly AT&T bill will be sent to this address and, if purchasing via the Apple Online Store, your phone will also be shipped to this address. (We cannot ship to PO boxes.)" so does that mean i can't get my phone shipped to my work? i won't be home the 24th or the 25th to be able to sign for it, so i wanted to ship it to my work so i or someone else will be there to sign...if i preorder from the store tomorrow instead of online do you think i can explain that i need it shipped to my work? anyone know?

So I can reserve the Iphone 4 tomorrow on Apple's site and do a exchange at an Apple Store or an ATT Store? Or both options? I want to do the reserve b/c I don't have the $199 up front and don't want to wait 3 months for a rebate. I just want to take my 3GS in and exchange it on the 24th, get the new phone and be all set. Are these options available to me?

My wife bought her Tilt 2 with no committment so I was able to do an Iphone 2 year upgrade using her phone number. I assume when I reserve tomorrow I should include her phone number for the reservation.

Thanks for reading and your assistance.
I am kind of in the same predicament. I bought my 3gs (new subscriber) on may 24th from Radio Shack. I talked with Radio Shack and they said pre-order it from them and I can keep the phone an extra day (only get 30days to return that would by June 23rd) and exchange it for the 4g.

Now I've read that Radio Shack may not be taking pre-orders so if that is true I am going to try and Add-a-line then return my phone. Activate the 4g on my line and then cancel the new line.

Any problems with that? If needed I can return my phone and cancel that contract then get the 4g on a new contract with a different number.

Ok I have a question! The account is under my fathers name but it's on my address. I'm planning to order the iPhone 4 with my credit card and the billing address is the same in my house. Do you think I can do it with mine or does it need to be his credit card?

I called AT&T and come to find out that they do NOT accept Debit/Credit cards because by the time they actually run the authorization on the card it declines it and canceling the order all together. When you pick it up on the 24th you'll be finding out that you're order was decline. They explained that debit cards that can be charged as credit only have a few days before the authorization cancels itself out, and when AT&T actually tries again to finalize the transaction, that's when everything goes wrong and declines you. The representative specifically informed me ONLY credit cards, nothing else! I personally think it's bull crap. Not many people that I know have credit cards, especially in today's economy.

I think so too. Plenty of places accept them as pre-order payment. Apple does and they don't charge till the order gets shipped.

From reading that post, the AT&T rep makes it seem like (s)he specifically meant PST, not PDT (Pacific Daylight Time), which means 1am PDT (which is what you should be on in Cali I think)... 2am MDT, 3am CDT, and 4am EDT. (Mountain, Central, and Eastern Daylight Time respectively).

I could be wrong. Again, the rep was kind of confusing.

So I have a little hope ordering with my prepaid card. Would you recommend Apple's online preordering or AT&T's? Also can I use a credit card under my name or does it have to be the account holders name?
