  • Apple's Stand Against Flash: New HTML5 Demos & Showcase

HTML5 has brought an incredible amount of new innovative possibilities to browsing the web, and as it continues its growth, proves to be a solid competitor up against browser plugins such as Flash. You should know by now that Steve Jobs has stated his love for HTML5 numerous times, and claims it is the new standard for the future of the internet. While many of us were hoping that all of this pressure might force Jobs to re-think the exclusion of Flash, but it's quite clear that this will never happen.

Apple has just published a new portal specific to showing off the abilities of HTML5. If you check out the HTML5 Showcase on Apple.com, it explains that every Apple device supports HTML5 web standards, and that these standards are open, reliable, highly secure, and efficient. It's quite clear to see that HTML5 offers a plethora of possibilities for plugin-less browsing. There are 7 sections highlighted, these being, Video, Typography, Gallery, Transitions, Audio, 360, and VR.

Not only will you find demos set up, but there are various resources on learning to develop with HTML, iDevice Apps that support HTML5, and of course a link to Steve Job's thoughts on Flash. Go figure.

It's pretty obvious that Apple is really going to stick with their guns and smother Adobe's Flash plugin into the ground.

    What do you think?

Didn't know that html5 could do this! The gallery and 360 were a little laggy but probably was because of first gen iPod touch.

Actually support Apple more on this now...

I was typing my name into the "Typography" section with my iPad and Safari crashed and exited. What do you have to say about that Mr Jobs?

I'm actually quite impressed with HTML 5. I didn't know it could do this as well as it did... and with NO FLASH.

I went to college for graphic/web design and started with Flash 4 and CSS as well as HTML 4. Things have come a long way since (that was 10 years ago too). I'm excited to see more developers use this as a standard.

Props go to Apple for actually creating many useful examples WHY they want it to be the standard. IMO this should shut some people up... or at least give them something to think about.

I think HTML5 is great, but so is Flash. Apple not allowing it on their iDevices is just childish. Our way or the highway. Seriously get over it. Not everyone wants to code with HTML5

I liked the fact that one of the demos only worked on Mac Safari and not PC Safari.

So HTML5 is so great.....you still have not coded the windows browser to work properly with it.

wouldnt run on my iPad...kinda disappointing. I'm assuming site load, or crappy AT&T network and slow data transfer could be to blame...

Flash has been around for s while, this is still in beta(I think). That's prob why some of you are having problems. IMO this is better for mobile devices. Can't wait to see more of it. I love flash but it can slow things down a little.

Wow, After the "demos", I'm all for HTML5. Developers get on with coding your webpages to HTML5!!!!
      I still like Flash though
