  • How Much Will The 4th Generation iPhone Cost?

A prominent industry analyst is taking a swing at what the new iPhone will cost when Apple formally introduces the 4th generation version of the popular handset at the company's 2010 WWDC in early June. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is predicting that Apple will roll out a 32GB model of the 4th gen iPhone at $199 and a 64GB model for $299.

While few other industry analysts have formally weighed in on the estimated cost of the new device, these estimates (which are on par with the current prices of the 16GB and 32GB models of the iPhone 3GS) are certainly in line with most Apple fans and prospective 4th gen iPhone buyers are expecting.

Munster also sees in his crystal ball that the new iPhone will hit the marketplace shortly after its June 7th introduction and possibly be available by the end of next month. Although the Piper Jaffray analyst will likely be close to his target estimates with both the pricing and release information for the new handset, Munster isn't necessarily proposing any suggestions that haven't already been floating about the rumor mill.

Overall, since the infamous lost/stolen iPhone fiasco earlier this year, few secrets have remained about the attributes the 4th generation iPhone will boast. But notwithstanding the lack of mystery, hype remains greater than ever for the updated iPhone's big reveal, likely on tap for Apple CEO Steve Jobs' keynote address at the World Wide Developer Conference, scheduled to begin June 7th in San Francisco.

Apple usually unveils two iphones at a time.

But I don't think we will see a 64gb iphone.

I agree, give us a break Apple; $199 w/new contract probably $399 for me to upgrade from my 3Gs

If there's a 64GB one, I'll be getting it. I'm always filling my 16GB to the brim, and frankly I think I'd end up doing the same with 32GB.

      I really can't wait until the 7th!

they did its $99. $97 at walmart. $399 for the phone is crazy hopefully they just stick with the regular pricing plan on a 32gb and 64gb model. i dont think theirs any need to have a 16gb unless they would make that the $99 phone.

I'm positive that they will hold capacity bumps at those price points until the next refresh after the 4th-gen iPhone / iPhone HD. There are enough things to justify the refresh already and Apple is famous for holding out on features to create an upgrade cycle. "Feature crunch."

If they have a 64GB model, it will be more than $300 because 16GB will be $199 and 32GB will be $299.

when the 3g went from 8gb / 16gb to the 3gs 16 gb / 32gb respectively the price stayed the same. Most would expect the same now.

not to mention the ipod touch already has 64 gb, not a huge deal here.

Yep, look at Apple's history here...
For as long as even the iPod has been out, they always raise the storage/features, and either drop the price, or leave it the same.
That's what's going to happen here.
The top-model (in this case the 64GB 4th gen....actually, I think I'm going to call it the Mark 4, er..."Mk IIII" iPhone) will be $299 with a two-year ATT agreement.
What I want to know is this: Will we see factory unlocked iPhones in the US? And if so, what's the premium?

I think Apple will at least OFFER a 64GB model. Because they do for the iPod touch 3rd gen and those to iDevices have always been on par with eachother, with price and memory and design refreshes. Speaking of which, I think Apple will refresh the design of the iPod touch this year in September too. Think about it. iPhone 2G release, iPod 1G release. iPhone design refresh with the 3G, design refresh with the iPod 2G. Same design but upgraded hardware with the 3GS, and ditto with the iPod 3G. So it just makes sense that they will refresh the design of both devices, am I right?

the only thing that worries me about all this is that the leaked vietnamese prototype was 16gb. now, if there is a model at 16gb, we can rationally assume that there must be a model at 32gb. what we cannot assume is that there is even a 64gb version, unless either apple decides to offer a 16gb version of the iPhone 4G/HD at $99 or they sell a 64gb at $399. I'd really rather not pay $399 for the 64gb model, because it's really not putting them out any to justify such a huge price increase. hell, I want this new phone REALLY badly (because I still have a 3G), but I am just a poor college student and $400 is a lot of money....

oh, and why I want 64gb so badly... It really sucks having such an awesome phone and not enough memory to hold my entire music collection. 8gb is worthless.

      There won't be a 64gb, it's impossible, the chip doesn't exist
