  • How Much Will The 4th Generation iPhone Cost?

A prominent industry analyst is taking a swing at what the new iPhone will cost when Apple formally introduces the 4th generation version of the popular handset at the company's 2010 WWDC in early June. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is predicting that Apple will roll out a 32GB model of the 4th gen iPhone at $199 and a 64GB model for $299.

While few other industry analysts have formally weighed in on the estimated cost of the new device, these estimates (which are on par with the current prices of the 16GB and 32GB models of the iPhone 3GS) are certainly in line with most Apple fans and prospective 4th gen iPhone buyers are expecting.

Munster also sees in his crystal ball that the new iPhone will hit the marketplace shortly after its June 7th introduction and possibly be available by the end of next month. Although the Piper Jaffray analyst will likely be close to his target estimates with both the pricing and release information for the new handset, Munster isn't necessarily proposing any suggestions that haven't already been floating about the rumor mill.

Overall, since the infamous lost/stolen iPhone fiasco earlier this year, few secrets have remained about the attributes the 4th generation iPhone will boast. But notwithstanding the lack of mystery, hype remains greater than ever for the updated iPhone's big reveal, likely on tap for Apple CEO Steve Jobs' keynote address at the World Wide Developer Conference, scheduled to begin June 7th in San Francisco.

I think they are going to go retro and we will see a 4Gb model for $399 and an 8Gb model priced at $699 for 'exclusivity'. There will be no 16 or 32Gb models - after all, why would anyone need so much storage?

      I might be wrong....

They wouldn't lower the storage and raise the price, we are probably going to see a 16 and a 32GB

If 32 becomes the bottom end, it seems pretty obvious we'll see that pattern also continue with a 64 gigabyte version for the top end.

And we've also seen in previous years that the price remains the same for base/top-end models despite having their memory doubled.

The only obvious thing that the analyst forgot to mention was that the 16 gigabyte 3gs would probably be dropped down to only $99 while the 3g would be phased out entirely.

      @DifferentialApp we won't see a 64GB because the technology doesn't exist

Are all these prices being floated around with a two-year contract?

      What about with no contract?

im confused , people keep saying 64 gb is impossible. Then how the heck is there a 64 gb ipod touch? Please inform me. thx

With 32Gb Memory chips the iPod Touch has room for two but the iPhone only has room for one (the other is used by the 3G chip).

without seeing final product specs (not counting the leaked ones) can you know for certain it wont fit in new one?

It wouldn't surprise me terribly if Apple, in an attempt to squeeze more money while also keeping an eye on the supply chain, changed it to something like this:

      8GB 3G - $99
      32GB 3G[s] - 199
      64GB 4HD (or whatever) - 299

It would make sense... for many iPhone users, they don't know the difference between the 3G and 3G[s] anyway (other than more memory).

This might be why Wal-Mart dropped the price on the 3G[s] (to clear them out). They also might have just jumped the gun on the price drop in anticipation for this:

      16 3G[s]- 99
      32 3G[s]- disco
      32 4 - 199
      64 4 - 299

This would follow their current pattern of selling the previous gen for the low price while offering the newest gen for a higher one. I'm not sure it makes 100% sense, as I would think Wal-Mart would flush out the 3G model before cannibalizing its sales by dropping the 3G[s] to that price.

      Just some random thoughts.

I hope $199 for the 32gb. I don't need 64gb and it would be nice to pocket some money from my sale of the 3gs.
