  • You really CAN HAZ flash on your iDevice!

Developer Lida Tang from Boston has found a solution for flash on Apple devices. It's quite ingenious actually considering Steve Jobs' disdain for flash. This app is called Cloud Browse and has been available in the App Store for several weeks now with more than 150,000 downloads. When you browse to a website within the app there is actually a third party server accessing the site and streaming the content back to your iPhone! The frame rate is a bit slow but usable.. and there's even audio. A premium beta is in the works that will speed up the frame rate but is reported will cost $9.99 monthly. The one site that does NOT work is Hulu as they actively block access. I have gone to a few sites and it works pretty well.

Skyfire should be out on the App Store soon as well. Their browser takes a Flash video and converts it to HMTL5 so you can watch it on your device.

Hulu is the whole point for flash - IMO - no Hulu = fail.

Although I'm sure someone on this site will make a hack - thanx again 3G unrestrictor!

Skyfire with HTML5 sounds a bit more promising than streaming it back to your phone from a server.. too much lag. Id hate to say it but, Im with Steve on this one. Flash was originally developed for desktop PCs.. but in the mobile world we live in now flash just wont cut it. It causes overheating, battery draining, and touch problems. HTML5 (although not perfect) was built in the modern world for our modern mobile world. The same type of eye-candy with flash is very possible with HTML5. Take for instance Google's recent HTML5 Pac-Man logo! (which worked great on my iphone) How cool (and distracting-consuming 4.8 million work hours) was that!!??! LOL.

This is pretty cool! I can't wait for android to come to the 3GS so I can see if it will give me flash. I really haven't stumbled across any sites where I need it though.

You are referring to video of course. But not interactive vector animation...

Nicely done, it's sluggish but once it's mastered it'll be a beast. This would be good for those times when you need to watch great quality video with out the load times

Did we know about this program when it came out several weeks ago, or did the developer intentionally not want any fanfare?

      **** flash.

Why prolong it's death with apps like this?

**** that. Why should I pay $10 per month? I can set up my own PC to do the same thing.

Hulu actually doesn't because their codebase is a pile of **** that struggles to run properly on even a normal Flash player. My who gives a ****, there's far better sites than hulu out there for watching TV.

Holy cow what a great app. Instead of paying $3 a month for grooveshark mobile, I was able to load grooveshark on the iPad and listen FOR FREE. It worked perfectly!! This app is perfect for listening to online libraries of music! Hopefully it doesn't get to popular, because I am certain that Steve Jobs would take it down.

This thing is ridiculously slow once connected, and their servers are getting hit so hard that I couldn't even open the app for about 15 minutes! Kept saying "anonymous logins are full" or something.

Not that great, but I guess if you HAD to watch a flash vid in a pinch it would be useful.
