  • iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 Arrives

Two weeks after iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 3, developers will be busy digging through Apple's new release of iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4. On a rather consistent track record, Apple has been dishing out updates lately, the bi-weekly update comes as no surprise. Apple also sneaked out a Ma OS X 10.6.4 for Developers along side this release as well.

And of course to no surprise, there are no documented changes that come along with this, so we'll have to wait for developers to leak out any changes they find along the way.

Gizmodo has noted that this update seems to begin to take advantage of the folders and uses them by default now. The clock, calculator, compass, and voice memo apps are now sitting in a folder called Utilities. Makes sense, I kinda like that. Unfortunately I don't have access to the beta, so I will depend on you guys to dig further into the new update.

iPhone OS 4.0 should be available "this summer", and one can only assume that a jailbreak will follow a few days/weeks afterward. Older devices will unfortunately not be compatible for the update, but there has already been rumors of people porting the OS over for backwards compatibility. Nonetheless, this still even means the old and some new devices, will not be able to use all the new features added.

Any of you guys who have access to the Beta, please let us know if it's getting more stable.

I don't really see what the difference is but it was just a little quark I found.
Yay! I told Apple about that and they listened! I am an Apple Developer, when I send group messages it turns to an MMS, I thought it was a bug so reported it. Apple listened and made it SMS as an option. I thought it would be a bit expensive to send an MMS to a lot of contacts. 30*25p=750p 750p=7.50!!!

Ugh. My pet hate. Texting while driving is bad enough. Trying to text on a touch screen means your eyes are definitely leaving the road, which makes it extra bad. Let Darwinism sort out the gene pool naturally, you don't need to take out everyone else around you.

Oh Padawan the force isn' strong with you.

I know Apple prob won't put it in but you can already rotate home screen and it looks iFine sb rotator will allow you to rotate your summerboard. To fix the "look" it has an option to shrink icons when rotated. You can set it to rotate your wallpaper but I dx that function.

Yeah that's possible. You'd need to buy MacOS and install it on VMWare. As far as I know you need have an Intel machine with virtualisation extensions on your CPU/BIOS.

Nothing is broken. Apple want you to be using a Mac to develop for the iPhone.

That is a change from the past. You were able to use windows in the past like the 3.0 betas, so something has changed or is broke!
