  • Another 4th-Gen iPhone Turns Up
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AAnUHePbe4]YouTube - Tinhte.com - Trên tay phiên b?n th? nghi?m iPhone 4G[/ame]

A second next-generation iPhone has surfaced, this time in Vietnam of all places. The Vietnamese website [ame="http://taoviet.vn/showthread.php?t=16471"]taoviet.vn[/ame] (currently staggering under the load of hits from all over the world) posted pictures and video of an iPhone that matches the prototype Gizmodo had last month, but with better finish and labeling, indicating this may be an early production model.

Unlike the "lost and found" prototype that Gizmodo highlighted, this phone was in working condition when it was obtained, though running some sort of firmware test suite called "Inferno" rather than the iPhone OS. There are other visible differences between this phone and the Gizmodo prototype, including a micro-SIM slot like the iPad's on the side of the case and the absence of the screws that marred the bottom, and a production quality label showing "16GB" on the case back where Gizmodo's prototype just said "XXGB." If the phone uses the same flash that went into the iPad, this could mean that there will be 16, 32 and 64GB models on the next-generation device. There's also an "N90" sticker on the processor - which is the designator Apple uses internally for the A4 - and the marking APL0398 on the chip, same as on the iPad's A4.

Circumstances of how it came into the hands of the Taoviet folks were not made clear. However, the tipster who notified MacRumors said that a Vietnamese businessman "bought it in the US, along with an iPad." Other sources indicate that the phone cost them $4,000 US, less than the $5,000 Gizmodo paid for its bricked prototype. Apparently Apple's vaunted security is getting so bad that it's driving prices down...

I'm glad you noticed that as well. The guy hit the home button numerous times and the phone did nothing to change. Also, there was no SIM installed but it didn't show that on the screen.

      EDIT:

He had a micro-SIM. Why didn't he install it, unlock the screen and show it in action? EXACTLY.

Why did it not show up in the USB devices either? Thought I read somewhere that it didn't show. Because the Gizmodo one showed in USB devices.

When they found 2x iPhone 2G Prototypes on ebay, it didn't have an iPhone OS. The reasoning was that HW testers didn't get loaded with release software. Inferno is probably the name for a burn-in program used at an iPhone Plant in Asia

The Gizmodo one didn't follow that, but it belonged to a Baseband engineer who worked at Apple's Headquaters. it was vital for him to have full software version as well as finalized hardware to spot BB bugs

actually, anyone can get their hands on nearly everything.
my mum knows a few people who do deliveries to big stores and companies, some simply, when no ones looking, and your the delivery man, just steal something in the storage and take it back to your truck
thats how my mum bought stolen things.
      oh and im vietnamese O.O

The mix of the Dude voice (oh ming, gna, gnow, ming ha, etc.) and Beegees "How deep is your love" in the background is certainly disturbing. Its hard to concentrate on the iphone.

How deep is your love for Apple?

      Oh! One more thing...

THIS is NEXT STEP Advertising. One glitch, Ok. Two? Impossible for them.
Big applause for Apple's Ad Agency. Do you want to spread faster than a virus? Use Guerrilla, use Youtube, let others spread the word. Maybe they'll never confess, thats is Its big secret.

      Congrats again.

Naaaa, they will just do a variable in the programing if $screensize = blah then

That way it will all be the same to use the OS the same.

      like the "skankphone"
I THINK: apple puts the OS on some prototypes, and other prototypes get a testing OS, which i think they use in the lab to test and improve the phone before release ^^
