  • iTunes 9.1 Now Available, Jailbreak Users Beware!

NOTE: iTunes 9.1 on Windows kills blackra1n. So if you use it to boot a tethered idevice, don't update! Reports of losing Syncing abilities with JB devices are circling as well. BE CAREFUL!

Earlier today we reported that iTunes 9.1 may be expected with the release of the iPad. But today it looks like the iTunes 9.1 update heard the blogs talking about it, and decided to push it's way to our computers today. iTunes 9.1 is now available and brings some new iPad features ahead of schedule, with the iPad being released this Saturday in the USA.

iTunes 9.1 comes with several new features and improvements, including:

Sync with iPad to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on the go

Organize and sync books you've downloaded from iBooks on iPad or added to your iTunes library

Rename, rearrange, or remove Genius Mixes
While it's not exactly a huge update, one could speculate that Apple might push an iTunes 9.2 closer to the release of the iPad, perhaps in an effort to hide some features that 9.1 might have leaked to those sneaky devs.

Nonetheless, it's exciting to see the iPad making it's way into our latest iTunes update.

NOTE: No word on wether this affects JB users, but i doubt it. Take precaution tho.

The situation here is pretty similar to the 3.1.3 update. These people just think " it's new, I want it" without considering the pro's & con's first. To be as blunt as possible... What is it that iTunes is missing as of before this update that you feel you MUST absolutely have??? If there's no reason, why are you so excited to update? This example here is exactly what has all "accidental" updated iDevice users wondering why there's no JB for 3.1.3 yet.

Let me put it like this... It's very similar to look before you cross the street.... Research before you update!!! Consequences being, you won't enjoy what you've got very much afterwards... If at all.

I had same problem. I tried this blackbreeze on my regular XP Pro computer. Tried about 15 times and everytime it said it was working and showed all the right signs but no blackra1n-fixed.exe file ever showed up. I even rebooted my machine but still no luck. So I tried on my Win7 machine and worked first time. Have not tried to update to iTunes 9.1 yet and don't think I will. If you still need blackra1n-fixed.exe drop me a mail and I will email to you.

So this update is awesome. The "convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC" is the bees knees. I don't roll with the most expensive headphones (standard Apple ones) so I can't hear the difference but it's such an awesome space saver. It converts on the fly so it doesn't create files on your PC at all. The syncs do take longer if it's transfering a lot of songs. So if you're pressed for more space for games/apps/movies, I'd def give it a try.

      Ok, here's what i HAD, here's what i DID...

      had:
fw 3.1.2, 3gs, jb w/ blackrain and the last version of itunes.
** Note my cydia wasn't working correctly either, wouldnt update.

      did:
      used sn0wbreeze to restore/jb..blah,blah to 3.1.3
      cydia works again

updated to latest version of itunes.
everything syncs and works fine, jailbreak is fine,
questionably gotten ipa's sync fine, etc.

On Windows Vista Home Premium PC

May not work for another person, don't know,
I just took a chance and it worked.

      good luck,

So when Geohot comes out with the 3G untethered jailbreak that everyone is expecting him to do withing the next few weeks will syncing problems still be presented?

And also, it seems to me that only Windows XP users are having the most problems syncing. A lot of people have responded saying that they are not having any problems with Vista and 7. I'm on an XP so I'm going to wait a while.

      i'm iPod Touch 3G 32gb on 3.1.2 jailbroken using redsn0w

      Will iTunes 9.1 affect me?

I'm only asking because from what i heard, blackra1n and redsn0w are both using the same exploit.

i can't find anything conclusive about this from google.

      From MuscleNerd's Twitter:

"iTunes 9.1 safe for overall jailbreak, unlock, PwnageTool, redsn0w mac+pc, DFU mode, saurik's server. (blackra1n broken, not Apple's fault)"

My friend also upgraded to 9.1 and managed to JB his 3G 3.1.2 with bb 05.11.07 no problem.

Just want to let you guys know that I was able to restore to a custom pwnage tool firmware in 9.1 on my 2g ipt. Got error 1600 first time (when I put it in dfu) and then when I didn't dfu it, I got no error and it restored.

I updated iTunes on WinXP last night and while it syncs apps on my JB'd 312 iPhone 3G fine, it totally deletes all contacts and calendar entries (synced with MS Outlook).
And uninstalling and downgrading to 9.01 didn't hack it either
Nor did deleting the MyMusic/iTunes folder and restoring from an older backup.

Had to restore my XP partition.

@ those who've updated : - Have you checked your contacts list yet ?

I don't use Outlook. Syncing contacts through Google still works great.

I'm running 3.1.2 on mac with blackrain. Am I safe to go to iTunes 9.1? Seems like all issues are windows based, not mac? Thanks. Need 9.1 to seek my iPad

I see you guys mentioning you're waiting for a untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3G or 3GS and such and that blackra1n only does tethered..? Am I reading it right?

My iPhone 3GS (I got it on launch day) does not have to be connected to the PC when I reboot... untethered.. but I see someone above quoting this:

"So when Geohot comes out with the 3G untethered jailbreak that everyone is expecting him to do withing the next few weeks will syncing problems still be presented?"

So my quick Q is maybe newer iPhones can't be untethered?

      Just checking, thx!
