  • iPhone OS 3.1.3 Released - Jailbreakers & Unlockers: Do *NOT* Update!

This goes without saying really, but I'm going to say it anyways as a friendly reminder. DO NOT UPDATE TO FIRMWARE 3.1.3 IF YOU ARE JAILBROKEN! It is not safe yet to do so if you want to remained jailbroken and unlocked. This advice comes straight from the DevTeam via Twitter. If your silly enough to upgrade, I've got bad news...you can no longer restore to 3.1.2 unless you have your SHSH on file in cydia.

There may or may not be a jailbreak for 3.1.3 - the dev team will most likely wait until the major release coming for iPad and iPhone 4.0. GO TO CYDIA NOW and get your keys signed on the front page if you have not. That way you'll always at least be able to restore to 3.1.2.

While we all like updates, this one is really nothing special and doesn't make it worthy of losing jailbreak just for it. The update includes a fix for the iPhone 3GS battery level reporting (I've never noticed any problems), a fix for app that crashed on launch (Haha really? ) and a fix for app crashes while using Japanese Kana Keyboard.

Additional security fixes are included in this update, and can be read in more detail here: About the security content of iPhone OS 3.1.3 and iPhone OS 3.1.3 for iPod touch

So all in all, nothing new here. My question is... When in gods name will we get 4.0? Do we have to wait till the iPad is released or what?

I'm afraid you'll just have to wait until the 4G is released and hope an unlock is found for that.

That or you can sell your current phone and buy an iPhone that hasn't been updated

That really bothers me, using the phone with a lower firmware version. Also knowing restore is not an option.. I curse you, apple.. Great hardware, poor and limited software.. What if you sell this thing unjailed or let people do whatever they want, you sold it to me and now it is mine, i should be able to whatever i want with something thats mine..

How do I list it on eBay? Does it have any practical applications in America that it has this upgraded BB?

      Thanks!

For people like me on AT&T here it would work great. Remember that more people use phones unmodified so there are tons of people you could sell your phone to.

      Thanks bro!
Got my SHSH logged anyway! Seems crazy NOT to do it! Get it done people! Saved my ace on a few occasions!

But my question is about the Pwnage Tool 3.1.5 - has anyone played with this yet?
    1. Melech518's Avatar

Pwnage is pointless for people who require an unlock and are on bb 5.11.07. You would need the blackra1n .deb to unlock with sn0w

I've my first GPS run using 3.1.3 (please don't ask why I have upgraded. It's a messy story, and I regretted using Sn0wbreeze), and it is clear to me that the GPS signal is inferior to what I had under 3.1.2.

So my advice is stay clear of 3.1.3. You will gain nothing but have plenty to lose.

iTunes does not force an update, you have to specifically accept it.
You are fine to run BlackRa1n and synch to iTunes.
Just hope you never have to restore though because if you do you will have to restore to 3.13 and will lose your JB and unlock.
Why didn't you let cydia grab your files?

Thanks for answering. Believe it or not, I thought I had.

iPhone is working great but I see the "sim card does not appear to be supported" on itunes, I can't sync. Anyone else? Or, how to solve this? It was working before and my sim card is still working.

What have you done? You haven't upgraded to 3.13 have you? What's your BB?

Thanks! I bought it with a cracked screen and fixed it so I will still make a little money on it. How should I list it? Should I just say what firmware and BB it has and say that it is locked to..... such and such a company.

By the way, will it work on ALL US carriers? Is there a way to tell what its locked to? Excuse my ignorance, I am a hardware guy, software is far beyond me.

      Thanks again so much!

If it is an American phone it is locked to AT&T - it is the only network it can be used on without unlocking.
List it as locked and with the latest FW and there will still be a big market in the US.
Shipping abroad on eBay always carries risks though.
      Good luck.

Well (YES) I am (NEW) to the forum & an iPhone user as well

I make a story short I am not very familiar with these phones
am an old school Nextel user and I happen to run into a 8GB iPhone.

Now it was working fine when I boost it up every thing work's fine
but the iPhone was disconnected I guess the person didn't pay his bill.
I logged it into my Wireless (Dynex) connection and (Boom)
I was able to surf Google's.
that was of curse into I got home that
I (PLUGGED) it to (iTunes) what was that for...

The phone had a (SIM) in it (T.mobile)
but after I connected to iTunes things turn ugly.
This is currently the (MSG) am getting when plug into iTunes.

iTunes cannot activate your iPhone because the SIM card
is not inserted or a SIM PIN is required.

Disconnect your iPhone, make sure the SIM card is inserted correctly
and,if you use a SIM PIN, tap Unlock to enter it, and then reconnect
      your iPhone.

      ICCID:: Unknown

I assume I kind of press the wrong key board
Key and up dated it to Firmware 3.1.3

I seriously recommend that (No One) up grade
to this version, not sure if my files/version
is corrupted or what but the iPhone is stuck on this
      particular screen that say's.
      ________________________________________
NO SIM card installed Insert a valid (SIM)
with no (PIN) lock to activate the iPhone..

When I do install the (T.Mobile) Sim card
that the iPhone had in it when I found it
I still get the same (MSG)

Any one that has any TIPS on resolving this problem
      please feel free to reply.

my apologies if I posted in the wrong thread.

      thank you guy's....

SORRY I Think is a 2G iPhone since I try to run sn0wBreez and it tells me 2G

      You don't say if it's a 2G or 3G iPhone.
That font you use makes it very difficult to read.

I've done exactly nothing. Everything was great but suddenly iTunes started to tell me that. I didn't upgrade, of course.

      3G S 3.1.2 with 5.11 bb and new boot loader(tethered).

I'm upgrading right now. After the upgrade, I'll take the iphone where I've bought it and they'll unlock it legally so I'll be able to use my iphone again without jailbrake, and, I'll wait for a jailbreak for cydia.

Running BlackRa1n should have just booted your phone again.
Why do you have to take your phone in to have it unlocked?

There is no problem with booting or using it but, as iTunes doesn't sync, I can't do anything, and without songs on the iPod, I think it is best to give up.

If this is unusual, then I think all 3G S users with the new bootloader must be careful. No more syncing!

      It's certainly not usual!
If you can use your phone it has been hactivated. I've never heard of a phone that has been hactivated that gets that message in iTunes.

Can't your carrier unlock your phone without you having to take it in to them?

I've called Vodafone(I've bought iPhone from Vodafone but I'm using Turkcell) but they told me to take it to wherever I've bought the phone. I took the phone as jailbraked and unlocked, but they told me to restore it and take it back, so thats what I've done, now they'll unlock it legally, no more jb or unlocking.

      But the important thing is;
My phone was activated and I was able to sync with iTunes. It was blackra1ned and it was a tethered jailbreak. Everything was great but it suddenly stop syncing with iTunes and I got the message "Your sim card is not supported" as if it has never unlocked, but I was able to use my iPhone except syncing. Really interesting. All 3GS users must be careful if they use iPhone unlocked.

      And, yes, I didn't upgrade to 3.1.3.
