  • [Windows] How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G Firmware 3.0 with RedSn0w
This guide will teach you how to Jailbreak your iPhone 3G running 3.0 firmware using RedSn0w on Windows. You can unlock your iPhone 3G AFTER following this guide by using UltraSn0w. Directions on that are here. Anyways, lets continue.

I strongly recommend you backup and restore your iPhone 3G to 3.0 firmware via iTunes BEFORE you begin this guide. By strongly recommend I mean restore to 3.0 firmware.

You will need RedSn0w 0.7.2 which you can download here along with the iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware file available for download here.

Once you have downloaded everything, extract redsn0w-win_0.7.2.zip to a location on your computer. You should see redsn0w.exe. Run it.

    Click Browse.

Browse to where ever you downloaded your iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware .ispw, select it, and click Open.

RedSn0w tells you that the ISPW has been successfully identified. Click next.

You'll see a little window that says patching kernal for a second.

Select Install Cydia and click Next.

Plug in your iPhone 3G and turn it off. Once it is off click Next.

RedSn0w gives you instructions. We are entering DFU mode now. First hold the power button for 3 seconds.

Keep holding the power button and start holding the home button for 10 seconds.

Release the power button but continue holding the home button for 30 seconds.

RedSn0w does its thing. Let it.

Finally RedSn0w has finished loading everything onto your phone. You will see a pretty screen on your phone as it is being Jailbroken. Don't mess with your phone will all this is going on. After your phone restarts you are done!

i think some of the problems with cydia have been installing packages 3.0 doesn't like

i tried to download a ringtone and midway through the screen flashed and it restarted. cydia then will open and immediately close due to the unfinished installation. in light of this i'd suggest not downloading ringtones unless someone else has had success with it?

      Restore to 3.0 and RedSn0w.

Yes it will. If you want to keep your stuff don't upgrade or find a way of copying it off yoour phone first.

It shouldn't have restored your apps until you sync from a backup. Just click restore.

In iTunes on the Summary Page you have the choice of 'Update' or 'Restore'

      Click Restore.

Do NOT restore from a backup, set up as a new phone and all should be OK.

When you synch your restored phone you will get all your App store apps back and if you synch your contacts to a mail program you will get them back but restoring from a backup made in a previopuse FW is waht causes the vast majority of problems.

Worked perfectly. It took about 20 minutes to complete. There were a few settings in order to get the data and mms working on TMobile although that too was fairly easy. In order to receive phone calls, you have to select TMobile as your carrier. There are specific settings to enter for mms and data service but TMobile readily gave those to me over the phone. I'm including them below.

      Setting up the handset
      1. On the handset, tap Settings.
      2. Scroll to and select General.
      3. Scroll to and select Network.
      4. Select Cellular Data Network.
      5. Select the APN field, and enter internet2.voicestream.com.
      6. Tap return.
      7. In the Username field enter (this may be intentionally blank)
      8. Tap return.
      9. In the Password field enter (this may be intentionally blank)
      10. Press the home button to return to the main screen.
      11. Tap Safari.
      12. Tap on the address bar.
      13. Enter the url for a website that you know isn't cached and tap Go.
      14. Wait for the page to load
      15. Press the home button to return to the main screen.
The settings have been applied and are ready for use.

      Setting up mms:

      apn: wap.voicestream.com
      mmsc: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
      mms proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080

Reboot the phone and the camera icon should be present in the messaging screen at the lower left.

      You guys are awesome! Thanks!
